    Re: Jimmy

There's a great shot Victor posted a few years ago of Cloud Dancer from behind, ripping off among the back pylons by herself... very low at very high speed and the scene is frozen perfectly. It is a great shot.

      Re: Jimmy

He was one hell of a competitor... You could always see it in his eyes on the line come race time.

I took these out on the flight line. I was lucky enough to go out with my bro's Bad Attitude and shoot pics... what a great place even as an amateur photog to stand to get the closest one could to the action. I just wished I could take the time of the 12 hrs of vid I also took over the years. (PS. Always had a mechanic watching those props while my eye was in the camera for me too.)

Are you kidding me? That was the BEST that that airplane EVER looked. I agree with Neal...it was aggressive looking.

I'm biased. The only Mustang that I've liked the teeth on was Suzy Q. lol

                      Re: Jimmy

Jimmy flew the Collings bombers during the late 90's and early 00's. I had the good fortune of meeting him because of this. Over the years he would bring Cloud Dancer, or whichever Mustang he was taking care of at the time, out to see us during the Florida Tours. He treated us all like his extended family. A few years ago we were at a tour stop in Ocala, near is home, and he had driven out to see us. At dinner that evening we got to chatting about Mustangs, racing, and movies (Cloud Dancer). I mentioned that I was about 8 when that movie came out and how cool it would be to fly in Cloud Dancer with him. Well, bright and early the next morning we were setting up the bombers for the day and low and behold if a Merlin didn't growl in the distance. Here came Jimmy in "Lady B", we greeted him and he said to me "It's not Cloud Dancer, but what do you think?". I was stunned. He said "get in", and off we went. That will forever be the best mustang ride I have ever been on. We didn't talk...he just showed me his love for flying and the P-51. No matter when we crossed paths, no matter how busy he was, he never failed to say hi and ask how I was doing and how the bombers were doing. The last time I flew with him was at Thunder Over Michigan in 2010. During the Airshow briefing he said he was going to fly (Old Crow) as our "escort". I had the honor of flying the B-24 in the show. I still grin like a little kid when I think of Jimmy glued to my left wing. What an awesome person he was, in every sense of the word.

                      Thanks Jimmy

What year was it that Jimmy had I think Dan's motor in Dancer and he smoked the silver and bumped up into the gold and was running pretty good before the motor went south? '07 '08 I lose track... Man that plane was motoring for what she had and Jimmy was flying it hard and tight.

That was 2006. And the motor didn't go south...the radiator coolant tank split during the form-up for the Championship Race, so he declared a Mayday and returned to the field with a DNS.

I think this is one of the coolest shots of Jimmy

Photo was taken by Mark Watt during the 2006 races.
