No full-size gliders have attempted DS. Here's a quote from Dr. Mark Drela on the subject: "An unbreakable full-size sailplane with L/D=50 could probably reach 500 mph in 50 mph DS conditions. Not for the faint of heart." Bring your G-suit!

It is the most intense model flying I've ever done!

Frustrated slope R/Cer in a flat state

Sure wish I could join you up there on the slopes Pea! That is something I am starting to really miss about California... all the slope site. Out here in OK there isn't much to slope soar off of (I haven't found ANYTHING yet), there is a small earthen damn about 20 miles away that might work if the wind is just right.

I watched the video . . . INSANE!!! When you guys say it makes a ripping sound you're not kidding!!! I'll stick to below 25 mph for now . . . wings break easily enough at that speed!

Here's the story on a recent slope outing to Frankfort, KY. Thanks to Ben Wilson for posting it all on the LASS web site.

          The story: http://louisvillesoaring.org//content/view/100/2/
          The gallery: http://louisvillesoaring.org/index.p...bum.php&page=1

Play the videos at the bottom of the gallery page. Trinity DS is one of the best demo vids I've seen, then the Easyglider vs. Bats is fun -- we had two foamy (EPP foam core) Bats in the DS groove and almost took out a polystyrene motor glider. I was flying the yellow Bat. What a blast!

How long before you guys start sticking poles in the side of the slope and do some DS pylon racing?

We do that with foam (see the Bat sandwich clip), but without pylons, since as the winds change, the "groove" moves around. We never fly two glass ships in the DS groove at the same time -- too expensive and way too dangerous! Imagine 5 lbs at 150+ mph! Not this kid...

                  Sad news,

I read that someone got killed when a DS kite hit him on the stomach. This was supposedly been discussed in the RCGROUPS.

Anyone know about it more ?

                  Really sad incident.
