    Re: Local Media Coverage

I heard that the Air Races brings in about 80 million into the local economy. Can anyone confirm this?

Virginia Bader had their usual art setup in the lobby of the Grand Sierra.

The Nugget had a large table with air face paintings for sale as well as RARA's ad for the races on all the flat screens in the lobby.

Circus Circus had a 4360 and a Centaurus (cutaways) in the lobby. I don't know about past years, but it's better than nothing.

In years past the local newspaper used to provide excellent coverage of the races via the efforts of a remarkable lady named Marilyn Newton and her news gathering crew. The coverage lately has dwindled until this year when there was virtually NO coverage---One very small photo of the Breightling air demonstration team and another very small photo of a T6 on the ground with a collapsed landing gear and not so much as even on a caption on the photo! One interview with The "Over The Hill" gang who are a regular fixture at the races graced a page near the back of the paper. Todays only 5PM Sunday TV news said not one single word about the races! Those responsible for this lack of entheusiasm for a One Of A Kind world class event should be replaced and hung out to dry.

Again, THANK YOU to all who contribute to this outstanding site and work so hard to make it possible
It's very sad that Reno at large doesn't appear to give a crap any more, but really... it has been a steady decline that actually bottomed out years ago at this point. When I went to my first Reno in 1992, the town was ALIVE with air racing. Streets were closed with warbirds lining the avenues. All the major hotels had at least one air race related display. The Hilton hosted warbird auctions. Now, you wouldn't have any idea an aviation related event was going on at all if you didn't already know about it...
