The airframe doesn't look too bad at first glance. But closer inspection in profile looks like the engine and cowling are bent upwards slightly in relation to the fuselage. Hopefully not too hard to repair.

Man, after looking at the photos, Furias sustained some serious structural damage. I really feel for the owner and crew, they have some major work ahead of them........

I had to wait to post this pic until I had permission from RARA... media are held to a very strict set of principals about "crash" photos... Matt's OK, the airplane is pretty banged up.. It almost brought tears to my eyes to see her sitting on the ground like this....

Friggen gear. All that work, money, sweat, and tears and it comes down to the gear malfunctioning. Dang it.

I am now bummed as it just sunk in that all (3) of the airplanes I was most eager to see at Reno last year are not flying this year However, I thank God that Matt walked away from yesterday.

Really frustrating and sad. Chuck has spent a fortune, and the airplane hasn't even been in ONE heat race yet. I love Furias as well!

What's with all the semi-truck trailers out there?

Figured it out--east end of the ramp.

Racing is not a hobby for the meek. Stuff like this is heart wrenching but unfortunately part of the sport. I don't think this is the end of the Furias project. RARA needs teams like Sanders involved. Wish there was a crash fund available for restoration!

With all due respect Hans, the owners of these airplanes are doing just fine in the financial department. As you said, it's not for the meek--nor is it for the weak of wallet. If the owner wants to keep flying and racing the airplane he'll pay the money to get it back in the air. Or sell it to someone who will.
