i'd like to think that they also have one of the great airframe mechanics in Gary Austin up there as well giving them hell in a very smooth seafury.

Always wondered how Hughes' plane would have done in the pylon environment. It's my understanding that Hughes didn't enter these races because he didn't want to embarass the goverment funded stuff!

And yes it is important we remember all those who lost their lives doing what they loved. And yes there are many more than my original quote.

                            John Crocker
                            Lefty Gardner
                            Jack Sliker
                            Bob Love
                            Lloyd Hamilton
                            Jim Maloney
                            Al Goss

and surely more I have not listed. All deserve to be on the, Heavenly Air Racing team.
Apologies for not giving you the credit for starting this. I just felt it should have it's own string.

Wasn't Bob Love the pilot of the P-51 when Air Progress did a mock dogfight between the Mustang and a Bearcat back in 1973? I still have a copy of that magazine and if I recall, Bob got the best of the Bearcat pilot in 2 out of 3 dogfights, but that was mainly because Bob had a lot more experience than the Bearcat pilot did. That was a very interesting article.
