AWESOME- 'size LARGE'! Just followed up on your tip w/a trip to the Amazon...Warner Archive production! OH YEAH!!! (& FIGHTER SQDN re-released by Warner on DVD as well-that one IS an original color movie production)

Buyin' a couple 'early birthday' presents for myself (I must've 'sensed' something cool was going on in the DVD market- 'Attractor Factor' in-play once again, to my joy!

12 O' Clock High of course.

Toward the Unknown (Bill Holden, lots of early jets)

633 Squadron (Lots of good Mossie clips and some so-so model work)

X-15 (if you can see it without the big screen stretch)

      Islands in the Sky

The High and the Mighty (a little corny, but it started it all. Watch it and THEN watch Airplane)

Birds of Prey (good helicopter stuff in a 70's movie of the week)

And for all it's historical goofs, I STILL like The Right Stuff.

Back to the original thread title, Cloud Dancer has great flying with a so-so story, and of course, Thunder over Reno (ducking). C'mon, you have to admit the aircraft filming is pretty awesome.

I also recently caught part of a film about the Air force in Alaska on TCM, lots of really cool F-82 clips in it. Do not remember the name.

The thread title is "A bad movie with good flying scenes", not "A bad movie with too many fake flying scenes and bad acting"

I guess you could lump Midway in there as it has clips of just about everything the Navy flew from 1939-1959... I enjoy watching it just to pick it apart!

If you think that, the you REALLY need to see the movie "Zero Hour" !!!!

I'm always open to a new one!
The High and the Mighty is one of my favorites actually, I think it's a great movie and a good John Wayne (huge fan) vehicle. It has become a cliche' over the years.

A couple of others I have that are good to watch:

              Fate is the Hunter

              The Crowded Sky

There's "Pearl Harbor" again. Did you really see good flying scenes in it?

Re: A bad movie with good flying scenes?

Ya gotta admit that the snap roll at water level, between the exploding ships, while firing at a zero was so realistic it was hard to tell it was CGI. I wondered who flew it.
And Alec Baldwin looked NOTHING like the Mr. Doolittle I met...

My Grandfather did a lot of the flying in Jet Pilot. I enjoy watching it every now and then for that reason. I have a few pics of him and some of the cast, from the archives at Edwards. Nice suprise to see it on your list Spacegirl.

While a butchered and stiched together version of history, "Der Rote Baron"
Has some pretty good flying stuff in it. Some of it is really bad CGI, but some of it is good CGI, and there is some actuall airplanes in it as well.
