Ahh yes, the ultimate question and the answer.. from what I saw in September, is a resounding YES...

I completely hate to see the pylon bar go but.. From the new owner's standpoint, that hotel was a loser and he HAD to do something to turn it around.

Face it folks, Air Race fans go to Reno, at best, for a week in September and a few days in June.. Even then, the bar is not that busy. What I saw when I was there in Sept was a VERY VERY busy bar on friday and saturday nights...

A lot of folks have migrated to the bar up by the hotel elevators because, though the waitresses are nice to look at, you can't hear chit...

I only wish that there was an Air Racing Museum where the Pylon Bar could have been, at least, partially recreated...

Nutton to get mad at the hotel management for, they're just trying to make an aging Reno hotel profitable.. I wish them success, wish they could have fit the Pylon Bar into their business model... REALLY wish they could have kept "The Garage"!

By the sounds of it, they got rid of the Garage for a hanger.

727, and the Amsoil Special on the stage.

They still have that old 727? wow! thought that would have been gone a long time ago.

When I asked last time I thought they told me that whole section was to be torn down, and a giant new addition built out deep into that parking lot. A multi-year project.

The indicated if there ever was a Pylon Bar again it would go in that new area. ?

Saw "Hello Hollywood" on my 21st birthday a long time ago....
The other club at GS now is a techno music boom-boom club for a much younger crowd than I fit in with. Lot's of prowling guys and girls. Dancers on the stage with poles (that was'nt so bad...) but LOUD! Lots of strobes, etc. Kinda like disco on steroids.

Does anyone know whatever happened to the Air Racing Museum that was in Sparks? (Rock and Glendale area) Why did it close, and what happened to the memorabilia (pieces of the Red Baron, the Harolds Club trophies etc.) Just curious.............

Re: Historic Pylon Bar - History

It was a nice start, but I suspect lack of interest due to poor location. I would think that these big Hotel/Casino/Resort venues could benefit from displaying historical collections for the tax advantages...D.

Most of them do. Legacy has all that silverware, Harrah's has guns, etc. they all seem to have some little display.
I would think any substantial Air race collection could take up a lot of space if it included aircraft. Would sure be coooool tho!

Saddly Wayne, I was always too young to see Hello Holywood Hello. Dang age restrictions!

I do remember they had an under 21 show that they did a few times a year, but never got to see it do to work, or lack of intrest as I got a bit older. And by the time I turned 21, the show was gone.

Anyone know what happened to the stuff from the Aero Club? The restaurant that had the Spit replica on the lawn? They had a Bendix trophy, lots of signed stuff and the best tiles in the mens room.

I stayed at the Hilton to dump and fill my water tanks up. Then the west RV lot by the pits

The Red Baron pieces are back at Chino on display at Planes of Fame, where they were before they opened the Air Race museum you mention.

I stayed in the Soroptimist lots from 79-02. Had the same spot since 90. Good times, good people, close!
It's a little harsh there for some, I know my wife did'nt come with us due to the lack of amenities, even though you can get all you need right there if you know where to look.
I only know of Bordertown now as it is only a few blocks from the house. Might have used it some back then if I'd known....
Kinda wondered why RARA has'nt had some kind of history display on site. Even just for the races it would draw a crowd.

Creativity doesn't seem to be one of RARA's strong suits...that's a GREAT Idea!...D.
