From the "Hold my beer and watch this" department...

Just imagine an APU or rocket engine turbopump running a blower:

Google yields many other web hits for Turbonique.

Just think about being able to order JATO out of a catalog for your hot rod.

Now that is NEATO! Thanks for posting that.

I don't know if it was a Turbonique but, I saw a rocket kart parked next to the hauler for Spirit of America when Breedlove was out at the Blackrock. Never saw it run but I have heard stories about someone running it out at Burningman in the middle of the night. I'll have to see if I can dig up a picture of it.

There's a whole selection of jet-propelled vehicles at JetWebb.com, including Karts and ATVs

Does anyone remember the turbine powered motorcycle in the pits a few years back? I think it had an APU engine in it.
Never saw it move but we were there for a start-up one day, LOUD!

                  No.
The one that was there was rough, looked like something I'd build in my garage...
Wish I could remember which racer it was near, I know it sat in a puddle of kerosene and oil near the inner road.
                  But it was cool!

Speaking of jet motorcycles... take a look at the one Jay Leno owns.

edit... I just realized something, that's the same bike Jarrod posted.

boy,the wheels in my head started turning real quick.
the frame looked like my old '74 550-4 honda.
would have been a blast to ride...
