Today's Oakland Tribune newspaper is reporting the fire is 80% contained.

And this morning it's nasty again...
The news is saying it will be decreasing over the next week as the prevailing wind patterns shift and the fire containment increases so looks good!
Yeah, coming into Reno from the north valleys in the morning is kind of like dropping into the LA basin.

Don't forget we had some monsoonal moisture today to haze things up. Rights now in Lemmon Valley, its 80, light breeze and can see Mt Rose and blue sky just fine. Remember Reno is just a hazy bowl a lot on normal days anyhow.

Out here its a great day for flying and some evening work in the garden.

It's day to day depending on winds, or lack of them.
Today down at international the smoke is heavy and you can't see the mountains. In Stead it was not as bad.
When I came into town from vacation on Sunday we hit it in Tahoe and it never lightened. Orange sky and the houses a block away were obscured. From the freeway you could not see the airport. That way yesterday morning also, then blew out.
Unless they get that thing controlled I get a feeling we will have some no-fly days.

I don't think the smoke will be contained by then.

Beautiful racing conditions, good clear photography air at Stead elevation and racing altitudes therein, upper elevation smoke causing amazing sunsets early week, clearing to severe (bring your sun screen) clear, very warm, GOOD BEER SALES days for main days of event! Oh yea... I forgot, a touch of puffy clouds in the afternoons for background for photogs..

Not from the same planet as the Alien, no extraterrestrial connections but, I do have a couple ancestral connections..

    That's the "werd".....

One of the jets was up this afternoon for couple hours.

The sounds of the races will grace our skies soon.

Sure hope the weather model is right....I remember one smoky day early in the raceweek a number of years back...
Odd Sunrise over Spokane today due to the smoke from the fire....you could actually look at the sun as the Jetstream
    brought so much smoke north...

I was in Stead today. Racing would have been a go. Relax man.

Here is a short panoramic video of the smoke in Reno on August 23. Does that look flyable for the Unlimiteds?

Reno, Nevada is about 150 miles away, 3 hour or so drive from Yosemite National Park in California. The "Rim Fire" from near Yosemite is carrying thick smoke...

I heard on today's San Francisco radio that they're estimating 3 more weeks until the fire is out. That would be September 18.
