A Griffon turning a contra-rotating prop is one thing, the AN-70 is something else.

I completely disagree with you. I remember the first time watching this video I thought this plane sounded absolutely incredible. It’s not the whistle of a normal turboprop aircraft, it has a growl to it. I would love to hear one of those engines and prop setups on a smaller plane to see if it holds that same sound.

I don't think it makes sense to create a new unlimited turbo prop class when we already have an ailing "unlimited" class. Now maybe from a class leadership/internal politics perspective splitting them up at the beginning would make sense, but from a racing perspective, having two classes doing the same thing with the only difference being powerplant seems redundant. And I would hope the two got merged together once reliable rules and SOPs were established just the way Super Sport got merged with Sport.

As for sound, the engineer in me simply says sound is a sign of energy losses and inefficiencies. I "hate sound" on principle.

Going to break my own rule here:

Would the competition be significantly more intense (not necessarily faster) if the purse was significantly higher?

Is there simply a lack of interest from owners in subjecting their machines to the abuse, regardless of purse?

How much of the thinking is "Been there...done that", regardless of purse?

Ask "Tiger" what he thinks about the unlimited class & why he hasn't raced it since 2017

I think I know what he'd say, and how he'd say it...but perhaps not.

My guts tells me if by some miracle the UNL purse jumped by a simple little "0", things would look different.

It's been a long time ago, but a few of my friends and I got to talk with Tiger at a gathering in Reno. I wish the people in power at that time would have listened to him.

Don't wish for you to broadcast what he said but if you're comfortable send me a PM. I'd be interested in knowing...keep it confidential.

With all the talks of Yaks the newest warbird digest should be fun.

But for those with fb there is a picture of Olivier flying the R2000 Yak.

Curious what this article talks about. I always thought Olivier was gonna race that Yak but he sold it. Not sure the intentions of the new owner.
