    In the pacific I have seen pictures of pilots flying in shirtsleeves and shorts.
    In the ETO I know one of the P-38's issues was pilot comfort, lousy heaters and no engine heat meant frostbite.

    Even without that 12 cylinder heater out front a cockpit can get hot. I've seen 120 degrees in sailplanes on a good, warm day.

      I know a guy recently got a pretty severe frostbite blister from keeping the AC vent pointed at his knee in a T-38.

        Do you know how this person got a frostbite blister on his knee without being aware that his knee was getting colder and colder...?

            Speaking from experience( frostbitten toes ) I can say it's possible to experience frostbite and not know it until the affected extremities start to thaw out- and then it can be extremely painful
