One last magical sunset at Reno.
When it came to staging this, I was beyond stressed out. I wanted to make it perfect, to highlight both aircraft, home pylon (because I was under the impression that I had to in order to get Ol Yeller out there) and capture what I thought would perhaps turn into an epic sunset off to the north and east (The way my 2018 Full Noise shoot did.) I had so many people telling me I did it wrong, and should have staged the aircraft differently. Yes, I admit, they could have been done differently, but to get both, and home pylon in the background, I couldn't think of another way to do this.
What I didn't expect was the sun rays to explode from the west. There was no way I could have known it would do that, and even if I did, there was no way I could have eliminated the background clutter simply because of where the sun was. Even so, I'm happy that this shoot turned out the way it did. I don't know of a more fitting way for us to say goodby to the Reno era of Air Racing.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this shoot happen.
And just like that, the moment was gone. Only pics to remember the final Reno sunset shoot.
