"The Bear Is Back"

Talk about a tough choice for POTW this time round! The 2003 edition of the Reno Air Race Association's Pylon Racing Seminar brought not only Mike Brown's new and very beautiful Tiger Cat to the sky over the high desert pylon racing course, Mike's very competitive "Super Sea Fury" was finally sporting her new look for the event as well. Add to that, The Rare Bear's first time round the pylons since 1999 and you have a photo editor's nightmare!

In the end, the former Unlimited Champ, Rare Bear's return simply had to be the choice. What a very RARE treat to hear John Penny "driving" her down the Valley Of Speed at race power... "Thunder in The Valley" takes on an entirely different meaning when this airplane is on the course!!

Also, again this week, we're offering prints of this pretty darn rare view of "The Bear" on the course at Reno's, not often visited by photographers, Pylon number three. Your print purchase will not only help us continue with this website, it will help ensure the Rare Bear Air Racing Team can fly in September. A very significant amount of funding is still needed to obtain the expensive racing insurance from Bob Cannon Insurance for the event, AAFO.COM will donate 50% of all photo sales proceeds to that fund.
