    Hi Wayne

Been good even though just a daily lurker and not a poster since before reno last year. I'm no longer an Oregon resident having moved from McMinnville area up to Kellogg, Idaho.
    See ya at PRS!

Good hearing from you Lowell.. You are one of the valued historians of the sport and aviation in general...

When we going to get you to write a book?

        A book about Custom Unlimiteds

It badly needs to be done and there really is a wealth of info that us air racin' groupies would drool over but just how much readership/sales outside our circles is another question. With the right kind of exposure before EAA membership eyes it could go well I suppose.

I've wanted to do it since I started saviing racer clippings and building my library in the 60's. Presently another book on my dad's World war II B-17 Bomb Group (the 301st in North africa and Italy) is more pressing. We'll see...

Maybe a three or four part series on aafo leading up to Reno would be a start, what do you think?

          Lowell, SOUNDS FANTASTIC!

As you start getting into it.. make me a list of airplane/people photos needed/wanted, I'll put out my feelers to see what we can come up with... Also post on here and there always seems to be good response..

Man, this is the sort of stuff we need to make this fun again!!

Interesting. If the number on the tail is anything other than 102 it is not the NASM bird. It looks like a 101 to me. 101 was at Rechlin July 1944. Also, is that a Bearcat behind it?

Okay BadIdea, your getting me all goofy. More info please.

Interesting photo, was that taken in '74?
Who's Bearcat is hiding in the background?

                        Codes

101 had a code of VG+PG, 102 (the NASM Do 335) had VG+PH, 107 had VG+PM. After messing with the photo you can see the iron cross, then P and either H or M. Looks more like and H which would be the NASM Do 335.

The photo of the tail could be a 107, and the code could be VG+PM. Or it could be a 102, a PH and the NASM Do 335

Certainly the NASM bird. The Bearcat in the background was later traded to Greenamyer for Conquest One and is now "Kimberly Brooke" with Howard Pardue.

I think this is the D'Allesandris bird mentioned by Lowell. I remember the term "Pony Express" being applied to it. This photo was taken by my Father in the early '80s at Deer Valley airport in Arizona. I seem to remember seeing the airplane at several shows in the Phoenix area and also at Reno in '82.

Another photo. Not sure why Pop elected to cut the nose off in this shot!
