  • Most Impressive Speeds from Monday- 9/10

    Biplane: Definitely the top qualifier so far, Second Hand is a sweet little clipped-wing Pitts and for the first time at Reno it's definitely holding its own

    F1: Limitless, early in the qualification period, Limitless was listed to have a time much slower than it's at now. She sits in third behind Endeavor and Fraed Naught, a mere 5mph behind Fraed Naught. Again, for a first time airframe, this is impressive! Annie is also putting down impressive speeds for her return to Reno!

    T-6: Definitely the pole sitter John Lohmar in Radial Velocity. After his first Gold win last year, it seems like he's more than ready to repeat this year. Second fastest is 2016's champion who took a year off in 2017. Midnight Miss and Six Cat trail them by a relatively small margin, but a couple seconds is a big deal in T-6

    Sport: None other than pole sitter Andrew Findlay. One Moment rocked the course at the fastest time for a Legacy at 387 and then 388 on 2 consecutive laps. Still awaiting 39, 47, 181 to qualify, and hopefully 24 and 28 will top their seemingly low speeds. Another impressive speed is Peter Balmer in Swiss Thunder, the report initially showed a speed of 372, but that has since been retracted and placed at 341. Still a pretty good speed for 67. As already reported, Race 8 had the prop depart during the session. I'm hoping Florian has some footage of it. I'm curious to see how fast they were running.

    Jet: 3 Gold competitors put up great speeds today. American Spirit sits on pole at a speedy 506 followed by Race 8, American Patriot about 15mph behind. I'm not sure if Race 8 is the same airframe as last year, but it has a much different paint scheme. Last but not least, Scott Farnsworth in Dash Force One bested his qualifying speed last year by nearly 40mph. His qualifying speed of 477 is already 15mph than his fastest recorded race speed in 2017. Props to their team!!! 15 and 24 still yet to qualify and potentially mix up this top 3.

    Unlimited: Superstars? Full Noise and Sparky. Full Noise clocked a 362 and change securing the 2nd place spot to Sawbones who put up a 413, one of their fastest times around the track to date I believe. Sparky is nipping on Goldfinger's tail by 7mph, Sparky at 344 and Goldfinger at 351. Who needs clipped wings afterall? Waiting on Dreadnought and Miss America to take to the skies tomorrow!

    Looking forward to tomorrow!!! Overall theme this year is faster speeds for nearly every plane on the course as opposed to last year and that's awesome to see.

    The Full Noise crew was stoked! Graeme flew a really nice line and knocked several seconds off of each consecutive lap. Full Smiles in that camp tonight.

    Andrew was also tearing it up. He had One Moment wound up and it sounded great! Probably the prettiest line I’ve ever seen him fly.

    The wind is gonna be bad tomorrow. Those that didn’t qualify today are going to wish they had.

      Nicely said, the wind issue (-;
      Surprisingly why so many Unlimited who had been at the course today DNQ'd, should be quite some action tomorrow.
      Yeah, Andrew Findlay really flew great today.

      Two short clips from Full Noise and Sawbones today: https://youtu.be/puOzaMJYLmc

      My old 1Gb RAM singlecore travel Netbook is not compatible to year 2018 minimum requirements, it takes two minutes for each 12Mp photo to convert from RAW and two minutes to simply open Youtube, no fun

      Best regards,
      Florian

        We had some issues with the timing on several of the IF1 entries this morning. Hats off to the timing staff for going back and reviewing tape so we could get everything corrected. Still two more fast airplanes (44 and 79) left to qualify tomorrow.
