      Re: Mr. Hoover

I had the honor of chatting with Mr. Hover this year at the races. He looks frail, but I tell you what, it mind is as sharp as it ever has been.

He knew me as soon as I walked up and shook his hand. He then went on to tell me about my Grandfather, and about the accident. Even though I have heard him say it countless times. I would sit through it as many times as he wants to tell it to me.

Mr. Hoover's Mustang act was beautiful, but the Shrike act was simply God given magic.
That's the way I remember it...

                Re: Mr. Hoover

When I first went to the races (1972), he'd do his Mustang and Shrike routines and also put on one fabulous 86 demo.

What a great pilot.......he probably taught the birds how to fly.

Bob Odegaard is doing the Shrike Commander routine now as a tribute to Mr Hoover.

                    Re: Mr. Hoover

As a kiddo I saw Bob Hoover put on an air show with a line F-86, not a specially prepped bird, in Germany. I especially remember the roll on takeoff. He was inverted before the landing gear was fully retracted.

He really "beat up" the place to the delight of everyone, well, with the possible exception of the pilots in the wing who would have been grounded for doing what he did. ;-)

Jim Mitchell, aka Skyfire, did an excellent video about Hoover probably 25 years ago. Anyone else out there besides me buy it? Priceless in my book.
