  • Thunder over Reno

I couldn't pass up the $5.00 price for the DVD of Thunder over Reno.......after viewing it.........I think I should have passed it up LOL......I know someone spent a lot of money making this movie...........but from an acting and story stand point, it was TERRBILE. Did have a few good air racing shots, but that was about it. The first shot of Vodoo taking off was a great shot, the highlight of the movie. Was interesting to see a two holer Ag Cat, I wonder where they found that bird? I think for the good of Air Racing it was fortunate that it wasn't ever released in Theaters.

Yes, the flying footage was just beautiful, but the scenes were awful. I've heard it described as "Bad porn movie acting without the porn...".

It was a valiant attempt, but a quality Reno air race movie will not happen unless someone is willing to put up some BIG bucks. You simply cannot do it on a small budget. They did what they could with what they had.

      Hey now!

      The credits where great!

If you watched it all the way through they credited almost evryone who is anyone in air racing.Including.................................. ..............................................the one and........................................ only.............................................W ayne Sagar.

I do agree it was pretty bad.Natasha Yi wasn't even her usual hotness!

You guys are still beating this horse?

Wonder if there's any connection to the reaction to this film and Robert Odegaard leaving the sport?

A great group of people made a movie aimed at a younger (MUCH) audience and we beat it to hell. Never mind that some of the best air to air footage ever shot of the sport is in it.. it's not good enough for us.

Ever wonder why it's so hard to get financing to do anything "media" about the sport of air racing?

Yea, and I probably know how Odegaard feels when he reads this stuff.. I will never forget the cat calls at the premier in Reno when my name rolled across.. didn't ask for credit. I built the website thunderoverreno.com and I took most of their production stills..

Thanks and I'm sort of a sensitive type so sometimes I take things 180 degrees off of what was the intent of the poster...

Thunder over Reno is a CULT CLASSIC, just watch it 20 times and you find a lot of funny things in it. Better than dressing up and going to watch Rocky Horror Picture Show.

What are three movies you watch pre Reno, Mine are 1 WARLOVER 2. Rocketeer 3. T.O.R.. I need to get some Black sheep on DVD

Funny you should say that, as "20" is about the number of times I DID see The Rocky Horror Picture Show, occasionally as Riff Raff (actually it was more like 22...Hey, it was thirty-two years ago and I was still a goofy teen at the time!)

Anyway, just being honest, Wayne. Robert Odegaard had little to nothing to do with the poor acting in TOR. That was the fault of the actors. With the right people in front of the cams and a little more work on the screenplay I believe it could have been much better.

I know he did the best he could with what he had, but if it barks and wags a tail, I call it a dog.

Regardless, TOR still resides in my DVD collection and not in the trash bin. After all, it's an aviation movie for heaven's sake. Now if I could just find that copy of "Cloud Dancer"...

Anytime you find a movie or t.v. series, such as "Twelve O' Clock High" on DVD, which has never been released in that format, it should raise "red warning flags".

                        From the website mentioned above:

"Which, because we only offer older and discontinued titles, in a lot of cases cannot compete with the digital DVD quality of movies made today, so please do not expect "PERFECT" quality. "

If this doesn't scream "illegal bootleg", I don't know what does.

Several years ago, I bought a VHS of the High and The Mighty, when it was not available in stores. That movie was tied up legally for about 30 years for some reason...anyway, I bought a copy I think on Ebay........the quality was very poor, so I assume that copy of Cloud dancer would be about the same quality.

I have both Cloud Dancer and Blue Max on VHS. Both are movies that most people would sell at a garage sale for $0.25. Both get watched at least once a year. I too watch TOR a couple of times a year, but only after some barley and hops.

Now if you want a real good aviation movie try Test Pilot with Clark Gable and Spencer Tracey. For 1938 the special affects suck by todays standards, but what a movie.

Maybe next year we can get more twins to come and do the tail chase and Galloping Ghost and Ron's old Super Corsair. Man that would be cool.
