  • Vintage Air Race patches

So Jeff Williams and I have been discussing Reno Air Race patches from the 1970's, and have run into a little conflicting evidence.

I am trying to identify the 1975 Reno patch. I had believed for several years that it was a shield shape, red with gold rim/embroidery. But Jeff thinks that that may be the 1974 patch...and that the '75 patch was the same shape, but blue with gold rim/embroidery.

Any old timers out there know for sure?

I belive RARA has them framed and hanging on a wall in HQ. Try calling or e-mailing Valerie. The one NAG member that I knew that had them all has passed away. Might even check with Charlene Aro.

        That's an easy one -

Reno '75 official event patch was 'shield shape'- bright crimson red w/metallic yellow gold letters & surround edging & no year date included in the design.

I have three (That was my first Reno, and haven't missed one since )

Does anyone know for sure what year the patches started?

I have the red and blue trimmed in gold you guys are talking about.

I also have 5 older ones, but no dates.

They are located in the far left frame (top and 2nd row).

Any help in identifying the years would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has any that I am missing, please send me a photo.

          Thanks

I believe the one in the middle of the top row is from 1974, as that was the first year I attended. It's also the first patch I have. Hope that helps.

You've inspired me! I have all the patches and pins from 78 to present. I no longer wear the patch jacket and I can barely lift the pin hat, let alone wear it! Framing it all would be a great way to get them all out of the closet.

Hi guys! I'm in the process of building a patch identification sheet and my son has found one flaw so far. I contacted RARA and got no help a couple of years back so I tried again last week and they said they would email me back when they could answer some questions. I appreciate any help I can get. When done I would send the file (Microsoft Word) to any one that wants it. I, like Jack McFall, have several patches that I don't know what year to assign them to.

                  Gary,

                  How's it going?

Do you have any patches that are different from the ones I have framed?
