    Re: Turbine P-51???

I remember about a full scale composite turbine concept/kit back in the late 80's or early ninety's in a magazine but I don't remember the name of the kit.
I think its one of those ones that never got off the ground though, unless it became the Grand51?
Any one else remember? It was red.

looks to me like the Grand51 has entirely enclosed wheel wells?

Dunno.... that's really the limitation of message boards.. Sometimes, totally tongue in cheek comments are taken without the intended.. err... tongue in cheek...

            Anyway... we're all friends here!!

              Re: Turbine P-51???

According to the text on the Grand 51 website, the plane was in a fixed gear config. at the time it was put up for sale. I wonder if it is still in this condition?

The Grand 51 Mustang is a one of kind, experimental, airplane. The target market price for this airplane was $750,000. However, as refinements to the landing gear (currently fixed gear configuration) and fuel tanks (smaller bladders recommended instead of large capacity wet wings), the owners have elected to place the plane on the market at an "as is" discounted price.

If so, then that would eliminate it as a possibility, since you reported the mystery aircraft's gear was in a retracted (but exposed) condition.

...depending on more detail, I'm leaning toward a Turbine Legend. Profile similar to 51 at certain angles, and only thing close that I can think of with exposed wheels, and there is one running around in a red scheme.

I am 100 percent positive it was not a Legend or a thunder mustang. We live near were Dan Gray stores his Legends and know a lot about them. It also had a white-black pattern of stripes on the bottom making it really look like a P-51.

Nope. It had a real military look and paintjob.

That surely could be it. Where is that plane at? Anywhere near Los Angeles?
