My Mother really enjoyed sitting there and hearing stories about my dad. Thanks guys she slept better last night after we sat down with them and after we read these posts from everybody.

As the picture of Lyle and the Bear in front of my at my desk says, "Fly Fastest"
He helped make this extraodinary sport, extraordinary.

Re: Lyle has finished his final race

Air racing has been a passion of mine for nearly 34 years. In many ways, my love of the sport began and continues because of Lyle. His commitment, dedication, obsession with "Fly(ing) Fast" set the competitive bar for our sport.

As I said in an earlier post:

Although the Bear was no longer his, Lyle always was and always will be the person in fans' hearts whenever the Bear flies.

It's kind of like hearing "Proud to be an American" and not picturing Rick Brickert in the Red Knight.

We have lost a number of great pilots over the years, but with Lyle's passing, our sport has undeniably lost a giant.

God bless you, John, your Mom, and all of those close to Lyle.

Over the weekend I saw a picture of Lyle that I just loved as to me it captured exactly how strongly he felt about Rare Bear and air racing especially after winning the Gold. His face says it all as he hugs his baby bird and that 3 blade monster prop. Rare Bear was his life, and it will always be his Bear to me.

Red Bull has no earthly idea what "air racing" is.

My condolences as well. He must have been a special kinda pilot since after several mods Bear never run as quickly as in his control.

Thank you Mr Shelton. Because of you, at every Air Race I ever attend I will forever be that little boy looking up in awe like the the first time I saw you and #77 coming around the pylons. Blue skies and fast left turns forever.
