    Hi t-dub-

By Reno '98, David Price/MOF had already sold Dago to Terry Bland, Miss A to Brent Hisey, etc. The trio of 9/11/01 Dago motor maint. shots w/Mike Wilton & Dave Fagoaga (wearing the Miss A shop apron) is from the Bland Dago 'Dream Team' dynasty era when Skip was team pilot. Dave's wearing that apron I'd guess because he most likely helped-out the Miss A team at some point & got it as a gift, or just cuz' he likes it.

          " Wildman's Vampire! ". . . . . .

Over the course of years in air racing, -we've seen witches, warlocks & a sorceress - devils, demons & an exorcist - along w/black magic & voodoo too, and this year at Reno 2010- just maybe a real ghost!

It's only natural (or- 'un-natural'?) then, to include a 'vampire' in the strange brew mix as well (-no wonder this fast & crazy motorsport attracts so many- 'gremlins' too!)

Not since Al Lecher raced his DH.100 Vampire in the Jet Handicap Class @ the '74 & '75 Mojave California National Championship Air Races,-against formidable competition from F86s, T33s & a Super Pinto, has a Vampire reappeared on the racing scene.

That all changed @ Reno '09, when Pierre Wildman entered his gorgeous but sinister-looking- Race #67 Vampire into the Jet Racing Class. Wildman qualified his DH sixth-fasted @ 456.142-mph & was 7th out of 8 in Sunday's Jet Gold final w/an average speed of 443.026. There's alot of great history behind these old British 'Bunsen-Burners', so check out this Wikipedia link to read f/yourself:

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Vampire

Thanks Pierre,-for adding some bright color to air racing's exciting Jet Class along w/some true Jet History!

            "Play of Light"... -

Whether you're a 'snapshot artist', an amateur shutterbug or professional photographer, how many times during a photo composition setup,-have you found yourself getting a bit frustrated by fickle changing sunlight messin' w/your subject of choice? Probably-lotsa times, I'd bet!

Hey, -no worries! Whenever that pesky cloud cover comes rollin' in & forces Ole' Sol to take a coffee break, keep your composure & your photo composition in place & be ready for some really beautiful accentuated- 'high-light happenings' to occur,-as a great complimentary alternative to those hot intense colors you were initally shooting for. This little practiced exercise will sharpen your eye & your photo skills,-at the same time.

As a good example- Here's a pair of comparison shots of David Price's MOF P-51D Mustang-#49-"Cottonmouth",-undergoing an engine runup @ Reno '96 NCAR,-captured using a tripod-mounted film camera, while shooting Kodachrome 64 slide film...*

              Note the snow on Peavine...
Not up to your level but a few years back I sat out a hail storm during the early week and got a few as the sun came out.

              Love this thread!

                Hi Leo-

Yes- that snow up on the mountain does get your attention, huh. What's your wx prediction f/this year's race week?

Dig your Tigercat shot too! Love all those juxta-posed edge angles going on in your composition w/the folded wings & all... Now there's a great aircraft paint scheme for capturing some sharp highlights on photo! Hail storms - they can really make a plane owner/pilot a bit nervous at times, I know. Feel some chill in the air looking at this shot.

                (P.S. Thanks for your appreciation!)

                  Thanks for yours!
This is Voodoo taken about 5 minutes earlier DURING the storm. They ran for cover so fast they left the canopy cover on the ground.
                  Prediction?
Well, it was 80 last Sunday, 100 yesterday and 65 at 5:00 am this morning. Supposed to be 96 today. 70 and thunderstorms by Sunday...
If the pattern holds it will be a pretty typical year, a little bit of everything.

                    "Riff Raff Racer".........

Hey, don't let their name fool ya- these Windy City speedsters are a- 'Total Class Act' on every level & they're very serious about air racing competition (-that's obvious just lookin' at Race #99's flashy new color scheme premiered last year @ Reno '09).

Mike Keenum's TEAM RIFF RAFF, w/aviation icon-Robert 'Hoot' Gibson as their race jockey, is one of the most-professional experienced crews in the Unlimited Class. Racing every year but one since Reno '98, these guys always come w/a plan for going fast & its seems to be working well for them- Their 'slick & quick' R-3350-powered Super Sea Fury has raced in the UNL Gold six out of ten times at Reno & gets faster each time it races. Hope they'll be back in fine form f/more Gold Trophy competition @ Reno 2010.

                    "GO- RIFF RAFF!"

                        Mon. 9/20/99-Reno NCAR Departures-

A formation takeoff by Vlado Lenoch in #51-"Moonbeam McSwine" & Bill Anders in #68-"Valhalla" is evocative of classic WW2 fighter plane scrambles launched to initiate operational missions & combat sorties.

                            "Flying The Colors!"

The paint scheme on Unlimited Class race pilot/owner- Dr. Brent Hisey's venerable P-51D Mustang- #11-"Miss America" pays tribute to Ole' Glory & this bird's a real piece of air racing history- it's long air racing career began as Dave Allender's #19-"Wayfarer's Club Lady" ((N5452V) at the '65 Los Angeles National Air Races.

Howie Keefe began campaigning her as 'Miss America' (N991R) in 1969,by entering her in both the Harold's Club Transcontinental Trophy Dash Milwaukee-Reno cross-country race & Reno '69 closed-course pylon events. Over the years, Miss A's race pilots have been: Keefe, Charlie Beck, Bud Granley, Robert Heale, Chuck Hall, Ralph Twombley, Alan Preston, David Price & Bruce Lockwood, before owner Doc Hisey started racing his colorful P-51 at the '95 Phoenix 500 Air Races.

"Long Live- Ole' Glory" & Race #11-"Miss America" - Best of Luck @ Reno 2010!
