        Good stuff...

        I just read the memoirs of Gunther Rall.

        He was a 275 kill ace and he spent only very short time in the west front and was shot down by a P-47. His finger was broken and nearly killed by his own people after parachuting from a Me-109.

        P-47M flew 761 km/h 100 km/h faster than a F8F bearcat during WW II.

        I seriously consider P-47 as, if the best all time fighter AC of WW II, then very close second..in top 10 by any standard.
