I read that they were going to try and set another speed record in the H 1 down there in Vagas. did they try? if so did they set a new record?

Wolfee... that "record" attempt was a bit tongue-in-cheek as there was no official recording effort to be done.
What was done at Vegas was "unofficial" record setting demonstrations, as well as demonstration racing by the Unlimiteds...
What the crowd got out of all of this was goose bumps from the excitement built by all of this by the racers in the air and Gordon Bowman Jones in the announcer's booth, as they radio chatter back and forth between him and Jim Wright was fantastic!
It was a very cool weekend!
