Do you man the Cassutt Gary Austin is now racing with Maybe's Baby paint scheme, as appeared on the Air Progress cover, 'cuz that raced as #42
Morss had #99 for 15 years, and no psychedelic paint schemes there, (ugly maybe...)

Not sure what the pedigree is of the ones you mentioned, but I think this one only raced at Cleveland in 1969. Could be 42, but I thought it was 99.

Is this the one, I guess this is ok to post, since AP is gone, and it's 38 years ago. (Oh crap I'm feeling old!)

'Outrageous', and it's for sale you know, now that you're assembling a fleet, and this one has its steery wheel in the right place.

#42 Maybee's Baby was the true psychedelic Cassutt, as shown in the Air Progress cover picture. What a nightmare masking for that paint job must have been.

#99 Scarab was a "semi-psychedelic" Cassutt, with a black, red, gold and white tartan plaid paint scheme that was pretty wild. It was last raced by Sal Lanese around 1970, when owned by Jack Dianiska from Cleveland. There is a 3-view drawing of this aircraft in one of the Reed Kinert books.

                    Funny
I own an airplane now, I have no money! Seriously though, I would have considered buying an IF1 a few years ago, but anymore I consider them too small and light for my tastes. I really wanted a T6, but John's not selling his right now, so I went with my second choice. Still majorly jazzed!

OK, found it. Wasn't too exotic of a scheme. I did find some close-ups of Maybe's Baby in the Kinnert book, and gotta agree on the masking, Oy Vey!

P.S. The mustang you are thinking of is the "Beguine." It crashed into a house during the 1949 Cleveland Thompson Trophy race killing 4, the pilot, and the air races.

Thanks for the great photo of Beguine, the mustang that I was thinking about was actually the Anson Johnson one. Sure were some interesting looking aircraft out there back then.

What's the story on that Mustang? Did it ever fly like that. That's one tiny canopy, I guess the one's on some of the other racers at the time were no larger.
