FWIW, I've discovered at work that not all USB hubs are created equal, especially when it comes to playing nice with Windows. Some of them are downright nasty, dropping offline at random and/or failing to recognize devices when added after system boot. I'm not sure if its a hardware or firmware deal, but different brands behave very differently. Hubs are pretty cheap (relatively) so you might try changing brands.

One advantage of living at the coast, there are not too many people here... one disadvantage of living at the coast, since there are not too many people here, there are an equal amount of stores here...

If I need something, I either have to wait to go to town or order it online..

I seem to have everything else working on the puter now.. it boots with sound and recognizes the PCMCIA USB adaptor that I had to buy to replace the burned out onboard USB... (none of this was working all day yesterday) but now simply will not recognize the hub... question is... is there a problem with the hub (always worked before, even with the PCMCIA gizmo) or, is there a driver issue... as it seems, there were some drivers that got borked somehow overnight and this is what was happening yesterday..

*sigh*

I'm good to go, for now, so will be working on stories today... *hopefully*..

That is, soon as I get over the flush of instant anger over the A-Hole who decided to bitchslap me up a few messages...
