  • WWII Bombers over San Luis Obispo

The rumble in the air came from overhead on my lunchtime walk today as "The Wings of Freedom Tour" took off from the San Luis Obispo airport.... I was able to watch the B-24 Liberator followed by the B-25 Mitchell.....Awesome sight and sounds!!!! Life is good today!!!!!

Here's a media show of the aircraft at the airport done by the local newspaper. Dave Middlecamp is a local award winning photographer and producer.

Very well done slideshow! I love hearing (and seeing) the vets. I hope Bob Dixon's ride was free. He deserves it (B17 pilot - shot down & spent 18 months in a prison camp).

Bob Dickson is our tireless stop organizer for SLO. He works very hard to make sure our stop there goes smooth. Bob actually flew on the B-24 this year "slumming it" as he jokingly said. Unfortunately we cracked a cylinder on the 25 departing, and it is now sitting in a Monterey Jet Center hangar having a new jug hung. Off to Hollister on Monday...Dago country!!!

The 2 "big guys" just passed over my house and landed at Moffett Field not 5 minutes ago. No sign of the B-25 though....Is it still laid up in Monterey?
