  • Has anyone stayed at Circus Circus?

Has anyone ever stayed at Circus Circus in Reno? We were offered a really good deal there but usually stay in Sparks.
What's it like? Any recommendations on which part is the quietest to stay in? I'd hate to be stuck there for 10 days if it sucks.
We just want a decent bed without hearing a bunch of noise all night.
    thanks, Rachel

And do they sponsor any race teams?

IMPO, it isn't ideal for long term. I stayed there last winter for a week when Horizon Air started flying round trips between LAX and RNO to help maintain some semblence of reliability, (I'm an AMT). The walls are paper thin. If you enjoy hearing the plop-plop fizz-fizz of your neighbors above you or next door, or at the least can tolerate it, it's okay. I insisted on staying in Sparks the next time I went and it was way more relaxing. IMHO. If price is a concern, probably won't find much cheaper or convenient to downtown. They used to sponsor a team or two, but don't recall any recently,
    Never mind. Maybe next year

Thanks - that helps. We live in the boonies and there is no noise at night, except for the coyotes. I find it hard to sleep with the "neighbouring noises". We usually stay at the Nugget, it's close to the freeway and we seem to get a decent night's sleep there. Just can't get my usual $44 / night this year - doh!

Yeah, that's where I stayed the last time I went to work there in July. (Of course it didn't come out of my pocket, and the wireless internet was not free like it was at Circus). I had a great view of the North end of the airport and didn't hear much. There is a train yard there that you may be aware of that could be an issue if you have your window open, so you might want a North or West facing room. Just a thought.

I live in the area and would recommend avoiding CircusCircus.

Silver Legacy, Asquagas' Nugget or just about anywhere is better.

I haven't heard or been to the Sands....can't comment on that one.

Harrahs is nice. Hilton is nice. They get pricey though.

Loved the Hilton. Only got there once - otherwise out of my price range.
My companions expect me to arrange hotel and air year after year for under $500 cdn per person, but it's getting harder all the time, lol
                Thanks for the advice

                  Rachael...

We stayed at the "Extended Stay America" it's seven miles south of the Hilton, right on the freeway.. Pretty quiet, nearly free wireless access and the units have kitchens..

Rooms were not much more than your $44. budget..

I reserved for there next year right after Reno but I bet there's still space.

The extra 7 miles didn't make a difference in time to get there and if you're not into the casinos.. then, it's perfect..

We drove in and partied, then drove home, fired up the blender and made smoothies..

                  Life is good!

Stayed there last year for PRS.. I would *NOT* recommend that hotel. Quiet enough, I guess, but... really bad neighborhood... yes, it's only a block or so away from the other more known places but a block makes a world of difference in that part of town!

                      Rachael-
Stayed there for a few Reno's. I'd make sure to have any DEAL in writing. We got a killer deal one year by booking a year in advance, and spent a good hour that next year with them trying to weasel out of the quoted rate.
You have to enter through the lobbies "ding-ding-ding-ding-ding" greats pretty old after a while.
They've had some assaults in the parking garage, so I wouldn't go through there alone...
Ditto on the thin walls, listened to BOTH sides of phone argument, last time.
Buffet is cheap, but not gourmet.
                      It's that whole clown thing.....
Shop around, we had a late entry crew find a "package", airfare, hotel, rental car, cheaper then anything the rest of us found.

*Last year a local mentioned the Hilton was going to be turned into condos, never confirmed that.

Too far certainly...Nevada looks so small in a map.

I have been at the Circus the last two years. Eight nights each year. No problems with noise really. I really have no problem sleeping after getting up at 5AM to be at Stead by 6:30, then spending 10-12hours on my feet. By the time I get back, clean the cameras, download the pics, and eat, I'm out.

It's fairly cheap to. I was staying at the Peppermill, but they have raised their room rates through the roof the last couple of years.
