    Re: Tunica

Well heard it from the boys in the Bad Attitude Camp that the new motor is on and ran well on the ground after doing lots of work to it and today (March 11th)Gary H. is suppossed to give it a go in the air. Should hear some numbers later today or evening of how things go... They plan on being in the thick of things in Tunica with a couple of guys in the crew going and trailer. I plan on driving in from Georgia to make the races if they are in fact on come June. It will be nice not having to fly to the west coast to see them race.

There Wayne, see I do keep up with emails that come in from the site..just don't take the time to go log in everytime thats all.

LOL Randy! Well you did have me worried there for a while.. never seeing you here and ya not answering yer emails there for a while..

Anyway... looks like we're all going to go then.. Keep me up to date on your bunking status. If you fly solo, mebbie we can save a buck and double up..

The place you mentioned sounded good, particularly if it was a half/half deal!

But then, Beer-Nazi mentioned that she might like to go.... she'll still be at work but might be able to get the time off.. complications, complications, complications...

        Re: Tunica

Well I still nervous, but I'm going. I'll be there Fri-Sun. I guess if something does go south, I can cancel at the last minute since I'm driving.

I hope it is the start of something great for the sport.

          Re: Tunica

For cheap lodging you might want to check out Horn Lake MS, Hernando MS and Southaven MS. Closer to Tunica than Memphis. And Speedemon has answered the right questions-apparantly they have experienced folks putting this together and I'm looking forward to it.

I would think hotel rooms would be cheaper at the casinos in Tunica. Maybe join their mailing list to get a discounted rate. Other options are Southaven/Horn Lake/Olive Branch, MS but I would guess they are about $80 a night. Might check further south in Clarksdale.

                  Re: Tunica

FYI.... been talking with "some people" ... We should have some more info on the event here within a day or so...

It truly does look like it's shaping up to be a "real" event and since a lot of folks seem to be putting up, I guess it begins to be up to us fans to put up also...

So... guess everyone should start worryin about those rooms because if we show em the true air racing spirit in that.. if they put them on, they will come... they being US... then we better be booking those rooms wherever they are, before they are gone.. and if some of the hotels in the area happen to belly up and support the races, well.. I guess we all oughta be booking there with them!

Anyway... been laying in the weeds watching on Tunica, active participation by us has been somewhat long in coming but, like I said.. we've been waiting and watching....

                  This looks like serious business...

So I'm beginning to think the status quo now becomes not to worry about "IF" it's going to come off, it's now shifted to "how we gonna get there from here and where we gonna stay!"...

I'll try to find out about camping, motorhome parking etc asap....

Seee you in Mississippi.. (glad my sister taught me to spell that way back when!)

                    Re: Tunica

From reading this thread you would think that attempting to host an air race is the dumbest thing one could possibly consider. For a web site with air race entustiasts everyone (many) sure are negative towards more air racing. Now that the Tunica Air Races are starting to take shape the attitude is still "well it looks like it might not fail and it might happen". If I were on the fence about whether or not to go, I most certainly would not based on this forum. Lets be positive and support this tremendous effort. I can't believe that you can get a negative from having more air racing. If some of the teams don't want to break stuff before Reno then don't go.
It is going to be a great time and there are some really great people working hard to pull this off. I know of quite a few teams that are going to be there.

I think the Hollywood casino (may have changed names) has rv parking.
