  • Home made Spitfires !

    Tally Ho !

Going through the web I found this page at one site:

Check out the last one on the bottom of the page.

Could that challenge the BEAR ? What class could ( should ) it fly in at ?

    Cheers !

      Wayne ,

How about the second from top ( 60 % sized ) . I honestly don't know which is braver a dude flying that or a guy taking off with a vintage WW II fighter of German origin ( nothing against Bf 109, but they were originally made to last only few hundred hours ).

Anyway the " Spit " seems to be very popular among britons. If that lowest pic Spitfire appeared in a film digitally sounds mastered to sound like a Merlin...it's at least a 90% impression of a Spitfire. Somehow I think a Mustang is a more suitable for scaling down at least it is roomier in a 3/4 size for the pilot ( I don't think a Messrerschmitt 109 could be much scaled down in cockpit room ).

How fast is actually Thunder Mustang ( ) compared to those british scaled down Spits ?

      rgds,

This 80% Spitfire Mk 1 is a winner.

          Chevy 363 engine. Over 400 hp:s.

According to this link the Thunder Mustang is the fastest:

From an engineering perspective, the Bear is a looooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg ways from being beaten by that sub-scale Spit.

The Bear has another 30+ mph in her with only minor changes (no, not a new wing). It will take a while and a lot more elegant of an effort than the Spitfire to best her. Let's remember, the F8F was a war emergency program started in 1943, the Spitfire design started in the mid thirties when most of the world's air forces were still flying fixed gear biplane fighters.

                Ehem dudes,

DeFords MJ100 Spitfire is full scale with Allison engine on it ( over 1 300 horses ). It is running a DC-3 propellor according to the text. Pretty good replica ..or is it a replica actually ?

It is only missing some 1500 hps to beat Bear, but will that design actually withstand speeds at 500 mph range...maybe not.

Here is an other full scale Spitfire with Allison V-12 engine on it.

You know, matt....that in itself is ALMOST enough for me to go out and get one of them Spitfires, and dedicate my life to beating the Bear with it.
