  • WHO OWNS AN L-39 OUT OF HOLLISTER????

Local television here tonight (Tuesday, 10/19) is reporting that an L-39, registered to an owner out of Hollister, CA went down in or around Lake Cle Elum, in the mountains in Central Washington.

Two people were reported on board. The flight took off from Boeing Field in Seattle, bound for Lewiston, Idaho....but no names are being released. The last transmission to Seattle Center was that they were having control problems.

Air and ground searches have been called off for the evening, but will resume tomorrow.

    Sorry to hear that....

I Know Dan Martin is in that area, but I don't think he owns one.

There's also CZECH JET, an L-39 dealer based in Hollister
(http://www.l39.com/), so it may not have been a racer. Their data page says at least one owner lives there:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    L39, N39TJ, 812041, AERO VODOCHODY, L39C, AMA/EXPR, UNKNOWN ENG, 1981, STEWART ROCKY L, HOLLISTER

This info is also verified at this website:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

(CHECKING THE OFFICIAL RENO AIR RACE SITE FOR PILOT INFO...)

According to the RARA site, none of the 2004 L-39 racers are based in Hollister.

Let us know if you hear more, please...

The still photo they showed on the 'late' news tonight was an L-39 painted in a Thunderbirds motif, similar to the one Mary Dilda flew last month @ Reno.

No new info at this point, though.

Here is a link to the aircraft as listed on ebay. States that it was flown to a third place finish at this years races.

I certainly hope Rocky and whoever was in the plane with him (potential buyer?) is safe and unharmed.....Strange concidence that today is Dave's birthday.

As of this morning (10/21), still no news. The search went on all day yesterday, but nothing was found. Authorities are now concentrating on an area east of Ellensburg, WA.

If there is ANY consolation here, the terrain to the east of Ellensburg is rolling hills and farm/ranch land. West of Ellensburg is mountainous.
