Doesn’t look like RARA was letting any grass grow under their feet.
Just read the entire RFP and their aggressive plan to award a contract by December 22nd.
Can’t wait to see who’s going to throw their hat in the ring...

RARA just posted this - don't believe it's been posted here.

The CEO of the Reno Air Racing Association provides an update on where the National Championship Air Races might move, and what's being planned for the final chapter of this storied event in Reno, Nevada.

Most notably Fred says they have 4-5 potential locations (already) that could accommodate all the classes, and noted that Buckeye Municipal is open to T-6, Biplane, F1, & Sport Medallion.

A friend suggested Derby Field in Lovelock NV about 65 miles from Reno. Built in 1943 for the AAF, 2 runways 5529 ft and 4931 ft. Appears to have a lot open space. Anyone have more info?

No hangars, no ramp pace, not close enough to Reno to really work. At this point, I'd guess you couldn't park the whole Sport field on the ramp at Derby. Yes the runways might work, but there isn't enough else there to work with.

I’m hearing rumors coming out of Oshkosh…

Supposedly, there are 3 different sites bidding to host the races, stating in 2025.

Can anyone confirm or quash this rumor?

This recent news article says they had a dozen potential sites come to the bidders conferences in June/July. I'm not sure how many of those would hold all of the classes - 3 could be about right and the others could host the smaller courses. Also stated that none are within a few hundred miles of Reno.

The basic website setup for the event mentions F1, warbirds, and Jets ...

No mention of biplanes, t-6, or sport.

I'm assuming this is not a work of the current RARA board simply moving the Reno races elsewhere but a completely different group attempting to start their own event to replace it. Which may not be a bad thing ...
