Re: Last Reno... Just released this morning.

Crows Landing, near Tracy Ca. Runways are still in good shape, its not that far from somewhere, (Stockton, SF/Bay area, Fresno) Lots of farmland around, but not much of anything else. No hangars, and it would be hotter than hell, but miles of nothing around, a big enough ramp area, long wide runways and several options of them. The venue is used for autocrossing now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=947rDkQcDJU

Its a long shot, but perhaps it could be done.

Depending on how you view the world, change is the only constant among us...

It's been a great run and hopefully they find another venue!

A few good places mentioned to move to. But Texas looks like a perfect place. Centrally located, LOTS of open land and some high dollar owners living there already. Going up north near the brder looks good to, but certainly would be more expensive for fans to take part. What about that Rod Lewis guy, maybe he has some old, useless land just laying around....

Were planning. In reality, the site wasn't even a good idea for IF1. There is no way you would fit any of the larger courses there.

Re: Last Reno... Just released this morning.

A lot of emotions going through me in the last 45min since I was told. I was hoping to get to the 60th but now I'm wondering if it'll be possible to get there in September.

While I figure out how I feel - and how to express it - I'm spreading the word in the hope of increasing attendance numbers and awareness,

Re: Last Reno... Just released this morning.

              Greetings:

Been going for over 30 years myself. My home is covered with Reno posters. Cant count how many t-shirts i have. This has been our yearly event for such a long time. We suspected this day may come some day. We also debated coming back this year after the crash last year. As you know, having been there for over 30 years we have seen a lot. Our box seats near the Ghost crash and that never has made us particularly comfortable since. But that said I am very sad about this. We will be there this year for sure. That's all i have to say for now.

              Cheers,
              Brian

I looked around today at replacement locations on Google Maps, the best place I saw was in Minden and it is only a 45 min drive from Reno.

Very sad to hear this, nothing else to say. I'm glad I went the few times I did. Will be there this year as well.

Re: Last Reno... Just released this morning.

Damn... not the news I was expecting at all. Sad doesn't even begin to express the feeling... gutt punch as someone else said seems more appropriate.

So there you have it, the decision has been made.

SO IF IT'S GOING TO END.... Let's just hope RARA really lets this go out in style, and with a bang!!

DITCH THE 7.8 MILE UNLIMITED COURSE... GO BACK TO THE LARGER 2003 8.2688 (or 8.4803 depending on how you want to measure it) COURSE... AND LET ER' RIP!!!!!!

Please RARA - if it's going to be the last one at Reno let's make it memorable - set the stage for speed and see what happens. Besides, the larger course will reduce the G load potential - make it safer to go fast.

Who knows - this just might be what it takes to wake a sleeping Tiger

The problem is that wherever you have them, you really need local casino hotel support.

We don't really know the reasons behind this decision but I suspect it is a conflict of the land versus the insurance and maintenance costs of the races.

This was to be and obviously will be my last RENO (health age) Might have tried to opt out of PRS... NO WAY!!!!

Will fly commercially or drive the little scooter (my '03 325xi) Was hoping to get Allen stoked to get the annual done on the Bonanza and fly us down... No joy....

I am saddened to hear the news

As a very famous ex broadcaster would say.....
                        Follow the Money
The Airport Authority just doesn't want to shut down operations for a week anymore, for a bunch of "Racers".

Encroachment of housing on the race course and gigantic liabilities killed our favorite sport.

It's a sad day for Air Racing.
Something around Salton Sea would be great that time of year but other than NAS El Centro there are no air fields large enough to support racing as we have come to enjoy.

The D-M Bone Yard south of Tucson?
                        Just dreamin....Gonna miss September excitement
Cheers everyone lift one for all the years we enjoyed.

So, serious question: Since it will no longer be in Reno, will the governing body of "RARA- Reno Air Race Association" still exist? Is it to be re-organized with a new name? Where will it's headquaters be located? Will it stick to one race a year, or a series of races at various locations by class nationwide? Seems like this is a chance to reach a larger audience worldwide.

Perhaps a re-organization, search for angel investors/ business loans/ etc and a modern business plan/ marketing plan could move Air Racing forward into the future.

Frankly, I'm surprised it wasn't shut down already.

There are a lot of missing elements from years gone by. I hear comments on various forums of radical, new tech unlimiteds being brewed but I think they kept their projects a secret too long. The jets are fast, but they always are. And they make a spectacular scene when they crash.

IF RARA finds a new venue, perhaps it will introduce new rules that encourage development of airframs/engines apecific for speed.

The "if" worries me, though. Liability is always a noose.

Re: Last Reno... Just released this morning.

The answer will have to be somewhere outside of the USA. I suspect the likelihood of the FAA granting another waiver is 0%.

The conversation that takes place with whatever entity that is a potential new host will HAVE to include "when a plane crashes.." not "If a plane crashes..." and that is just the sad reality of things.

Baja has a lot of places that would work great for this, they have a strong racing culture there, and they understand death is part of risking your life.
