  • Tryin' Hard Not To croak before Reno 2022

Woke up this AM coughing up a fair amount of blood feeling really weak and dizzy ox sat at about 90... Pretty scary, called ambulance, unfortunately today was go out and wreck your car and get hurt day here in the lovely coastal community I am lucky to live in.. ambulance said they were, at least, 20 min's out... we're 15 minutes from the hospital, I cancelled the 911 call and BeerNazi drove me to the ER in Astoria..

turns out, I'm pretty lucky.. so far, at least. As far as they can tell, I inhaled stomach acid during an acid reflux episode about two weeks ago and burned the hell out of my lungs.. I had a pretty bad infection that started bleeding.

Luckily, after several attempts to record one of my arrhythmia episodes, I had a 10 minute bout with tachycardia and they were finally (after months of having the symptoms that never happened at the doctor's office) we got a good read.. I truly do have arrhythmia. So.. we're dealing with two (or more) issues...

Looks like they will get me set up with *SOMETHING* that takes care of the irregular heart beat... and I have to be much more careful about what and when I eat it. I aint by no means out of the woods yet.. Looks like for sure, I'll be cleared to go to RENO...

Turns out, the bleeding in my lungs led to a TON of discoveries about my health that I've been trying to piecemeal together at a primary care doc with referrals to specialists.. Had a GREAT young way too energetic ER doc... really gotta love ER docs! We became fast friends and I spent a lot of time talking with him about calming down.. this 30 something doctor is on a fast track to kill himself with his energy... Entire staff LOVES him and told me, seriously, there's no hope in slowing this young man down... ya gotta love ER docs!

Hang in there Wayne, I take a blood thinner called Rivaroxaban with food to prevent stroke & blood clots plus cholesterol, blood pressure. water pills & my pacemaker to keep my pulse rate in the 60s. Pretty soon I will have to go to "ACE" hardware for parts. See you in Sept. @ Reno.

Yea, getting old sucks for sure.. but the alternative is a bit worse I think LOL!

Question for ya on the blood thinners, I've heard really bad things about them, and they are waiting till I clear the pneumonia
they will start me on them.. I'm a bit afraid of taking them. I already bleed pretty well when I get a bump or nick.. my shop floor bears blood drops here and there from small ignorable wounds that blead a lot more than I expected.. I have been taking up to 4 aspirin a day...

We're now, at least, finally getting to the root of the problems. They did so many tests yesterday I managed to get a LOT of information that I'd been chasing for months.. I suppose the coughing up blood episode was a blessing in disguise.. My afib never showed up during any tests, OTHER than my new "doctor" who heard it but did nothing further after ekg did not find anything.. Same thing at hospital, the alarm would come on, they would run in with the recording ekg maching, reconnect all the leads and it would stop... frustrating! Every night when I get up to do the old man visits to the toidy, when I get back in bed, I can actually feel and hear the rapid flutter of tacarida

Croaking for frogs and toads... You are neither, so, don't do that. hahahah.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you are sort of feeling better, and happy to hear that the docs figured some stuff out. Get healthy so you can attend what could be the best Unlimited Gold race in a decade.

Here's my experience with AFib and blood thinners.
I was diagnosed with AFib in a routine doctors check around age 70.
They put me on the blood thinner Xeralto.
I was always sort of a bleeder so a little worried myself. The Xeralto defiantly made me a bigger bleeder. Any scratch, cut or
scrape would need bandaids. It also takes me longer to heal but I learned to live with it, Bandaids of all sizes in medicine chest, car and bike pack. It's not uncommon to be walking along and leaving a trail of blood without even knowing it. I was told by a paramedic friend to wear a MEDICAL BRACELET stating that I take blood thinners. If you'r ever in ambulatory care the techs will know what to do. I've been dealing with this for 6 years now and it is just a part of my life. IMO don't sweat it.
                      Best
                      Tom

I have taken Lisinopril for 25 years, had a stent installed after heart attack 10 years ago and now take Plavix, Xarelto and Norvasc. Also been taking Nexium for 12 years and never been able to get off it. Hate the Plavix the most and probably could quit it for a little more Xarelto.
All medicines suck a little bit but overall the blood pressure meds are not to bad, if you still drink often like every 3 days or so stop that.
Feel better Wayne it will work its self out. Thanks, KC

Still not out of the woods yet. Still in the diagnosis phase.. pacemaker may be in my future.

I'm always searching for targets of opportunity while at Reno... Trying to swing a space for my 40 motorhome out at site.. last RARA PR lady who left recently told me they had something working... have yet to hear back from new staffer.. time to knock on the window I think..

Well there's still time yet so best of fortune finding the spot somewhere out of the woods. Why not volunteer it for a crew to relax in in the pits?
