No offense to Bonanza, RV, et al owners out there but...I'm not sure we need more racers at the 200mph range in the Sport class. Ironically 200mph is the just about the delta between the slowest Sport and the fastest Sport.

Not legal for competition. From the 2021 Sport Class rules:

"Aircraft eligible for competition within the Sport Class shall be:

Sport aircraft shall be any experimental, kit-built, plans-built or amateur built
aircraft that is certificated by the FAA and has completed a phase 1 flight test."

Not legal for competition. From the 2021 Sport Class rules:

"Aircraft eligible for competition within the Sport Class shall be:

Sport aircraft shall be any experimental, kit-built, plans-built or amateur built
aircraft that is certificated by the FAA and has completed a phase 1 flight test."

These are both registered in the Experimental category

In the early years of Reno, there was a class where Bonanza's, Comanche's, Meyer's 200, and others raced. I believe it was called the "Women's stock plane races"

If it?s legal, safe (G loading), and you are fast enough to make the field then why not?

The gold/silver/bronze heat structure at reno means the easiest way to get closer racing is to have more racers. It doesn?t matter whether the new addition is at the top, middle, or bottom. And then once a racer is hooked, and speed mod season takes hold, there is the ?trickle up? effect. The Epsilon?s speed improvements the last several years is a perfect example

So if this rule is still in effect, how could an assembly line Bonanza possibly be legal?

They wouldn't be. There are a very small handful that have been move to the Exhibition Experimental category for various reasons that would be legal. If they could handle the G-loading etc.
