  • Increasing Miss Americas speed

In re-reading through the threads, it is apparent the Team did go fast Mods(last year) on
Miss A in an attempt to take on Dreadnought.

For the sake of conversation, what other additional modifications can be done in order to
get MA around the big #8 -without having to turn it into a Voodoo or Strega?

Full race tube motor with Allison rods, and more air frame clean up.

A tube motor would help. In turn they could copy Ridge Runner III’s scoop and doghouse design. I don’t think the current engine has Allison rods. I would think that’s a smart move if they plan on keeping the same style this year. A lower profile canopy wouldn’t hurt. But with a tube engine and refined doghouse that’s a 450+ airframe like that. But $$$

Speed wise, how much is a race canopy, (Voodoo, Strega style) worth?

Not worth the work to make it happen. RRIII was more than fast enough to nearly keep up with the Super Stangs without it. Miss America doesn't need too much more to beat Dreadnought.

That has never really been proven as that mod has always taken place along with a lot of other mods at the same time. Realistically it isn't worth a lot as a stand alone change. You'd gain more by optimizing the radiator ducting and getting the oil cooler out of the air stream. Correcting the horizontal incidence and taking the offset out of the vertical would likely be a larger gain as well.

...could it be done without a "tube motor"?

Not without turning the air frame into a Strega / Voodoo clone.

Well, Miss A's history has mostly been as a racer so it would be a natural progression. Nice spending other peoples money.

I ran a CFD simulation on a stock mustang. I'll run the simulation again with a race canopy.

I am no SME on this subject by ANY stretch, but a question from a layman.

If the canopy/turtledeck are reconfigured in a manner similar to Strega and VooDoo, would one reasonably expect that pressure flow over the horizontal and vertical stabs would be increased? Essentially moving the pressure gradients further aft?

If so, is there a corresponding effect on those surfaces with respect to flutter or stick input requirements?

                      If not, why not?

Asking for some free education here. Curiousity has the better of me!

Thanks to all on this thread and others who bring an incredible amount of knowledge and insight into the conversation and never seem to mind sharing their expertise.

I have been watching those cars repair shop series and Wheeler Dealers just tuned a Hemi engine from 50ies DeSoto...and gained 30 hp ( of 160 hp ) by adjusting and redrilling+replacing the valves. Cleaning too.

The high pressure area at the back of the bubble canopy disappears and the low pressure area at the top of the canopy is reduced.
