  • Brewster as an airracer ?

    How about rebuilding a F2A-2...and fit a R-2800 on it ?

    Good idea ?

You have to be Finnish to extract any performance out of that airframe.

        Yes I am finnish.

We also made a copy of it to run with war booty M-63 engines.

Page details technical specifications, development, and operational history of the VL Humu including pictures.

The FiAF model 239 was a light version of the US F2A.

        Vne was 620 km/h

It was called the "Pearl of the sky" !

You do realize that the VNE at 620 kmph is only 385 mph.

Even with an R2800 hanging off the front, at Reno a Brewster Buffalo might still struggle to beat a stock Wildcat.

Look up the Wildfire project. There's lots of info on this site. Looking at the history of really fast Unlimiteds there are only three airframes that seem to populate the tip of the spear (the exception being Tsunami). Mustangs, Bearcat, Sea Furies. A lot of very smart people have spent tons of money and even more time trying to figure out what combination might yield the best results in the very small envelope at Reno. If you really want to innovate you should consider those record setters as your baseline not your goal. You need to stand on the shoulders of giants to win gold at Reno, you're not going to do it with a combination no one has thought of.

But if you start from scratch...you may add pressure gradient matching and laminar wing foil etc !

It could be a challenge to make the wing withstand the stresses in high speed.

Personally, I'd rather start with this little runt...

I think Tsunami with "Skip" flying it had laps in the low 500MPH. If only it was further refined who knows?

What is the story behind these all wing length flaps/ailerons ?

Do you think it could carry a R-2800 ?

It seems to have had a separate flap and aileron.
