  • Google Ads Do you want them gone? Should AAFO throw in the towel?

I just want to know, do you think the ads are an unwelcome intrusion?

At this point, the amount of clickthrough visit revenue is at an all time low..

What do you think? From time to time, they do help bring up the funds necessary to keep us afloat, I'm actually wondering if the facebook curse on this site has finally won.

Mark Zuckerberg gets richer by the day, I post a few photos from here on his site and am flooded with responses from members here who used to frequent the site, click on an ad or two, post photos news etc. So... why the F^9oK keep up this place?

They do not bother me at all, seriously. I can not afford to make a donation and adds are on every other page on the internet.

No issues here. FB is evil.

To be honest Wayne, I’ve never noticed them...

What is clickthrough visit revenue? Is it just as it sounds? I visit every single day (even the off season), and have done so since registering. Am I doing my part? I know I can do more, but what do we need to do as a group? Ads are annoying, but if it keeps the doors open......
          Thanks Wayne!

I don't mind the ads at all, frankly the forum area of the site hardly has any ads. I don't know how all of that works, but if it means keeping the forums going I would be happy to see more ads on the pages.

Hang in there Wayne. I’ve been spreading the AAFO word out in the VOS. Even made friends with a longtime member for the first time. Hopefully it will drum up some business. FWIW, I don’t mind the ads at all. Keep em coming.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

Thanks everyone. They really do not earn much for the site all year, around Reno, we do usually gain a bit.. sometimes a lot, but we have a LOT less visitors this year than ever before..... I wondered if it might be the ads?

                Anyway.... thanks!

Thanks for taking the time and energy to host this site. It’s hard to be a fan of air racing, as there is so little information out there, and essentially one race a year. As for the ads, I hate the ads, but would hate it more if your site went away, so do what you have to do to keep it going. As for the lower numbers this year, those bleachers were looking pretty empty whenever they were pictured...

First thank you for the appreciation!!

I'm not sure about the attendance this year, media briefing Saturday AM indicated "numbers are up" I did some comparison looks while watching Las Vegas' NASCAR Xfinity racing series I recorded on Friday night to Saturday afternoon's live feed, It's hard to tell because the last thing NBC does is focus on the seat count, and also that is a pretty large venue... but, so is RENO! Pits were crowded, stands looked pretty good, vendor areas behind stands looked really good.. What I saw on Sunday, prior to the Tbirds finale, was very encouraging!

It mystifies me how so many people come out to the races simply to see the Thunderbirds and the air racing is very secondary. You could see that effect as well, vendor area full during races, as well as when the Birds were in the air.. .one group using one time to grab grub, the other... well, you get it.

"around Reno, we do usually gain a bit"...

Yeah, I'm one of those guys. As a previous poster stated, this is a hard sport to follow. I pop in here looking for information on the past as well as what is going on. I attended Reno in 2000 and the early 2000s, I used to know someone who raced in Sport Class. Go to Hot August Nights as a habit. Might try to make the air races next year while I still can.

To your original questions, I don't mind the ads at all. I hate Facebook for a variety of reasons, not the least of which I find it hard to navigate (Myspace was much better). I only go there when I have a very good reason. If you posted there exclusively, then I'm sure I'd check it out. But I prefer AAFO.

The crowd looked light to me, and I miss the highly modified Unlimiteds. Also worth noting that Reno has moved away from being a "little Las Vegas", the casinos are not the draw they used to be. Still one of my favorite towns.

Thanks for hosting this site and get well soon.

Re: Google Ads Do you want them gone? Should AAFO throw in the towel?

If anything I think you should be adding more adds and maybe even requiring a fee to sign up and view the forum (existing members included). A voluntary transaction says the user values the good/service more than the dollar amount they are paying. Clearly everyone here values the service. It doesn't have to be something high, but even if you charged $5 per year and there were only 20 users, that's still $100 more towards the upkeep of the site that you didn't have. And I'm sure most of us would be willing to do that.

I know there is a donate button, but donate sorta implies that it's not necessary to keep the site afloat. If you need us to pay to keep this going then just get us to pay. Our choices are either to pay, use Fb, or go without.

I'd be good with that, or a little more. The only other forum I pay for is $25 a year.

                            Never Fee Based Membership!

I just could never bring myself to make access to the features of software that the site runs on and the ability to post or view posts on membership fees!

IF I could, this site would completely ad free and unlimited access to all!... well, it's free lol but the ads were the question.

I'm not supposed to click ads as the owner of the site but dangity… sometimes I see something really cool and I forget and click on it!! As a publisher, I am also totally not able to encourage any visitor to click on an ad!!! This is very important, I can only present content that the ad software uses to present ads relevant to content...

I'm probably borderline DQ by discussing !

                            Thanks for the input..

We will NEVER be fee based for content viewing!!!!!

Got a bunch server storage space that I'd not mind renting out a bit of, however!

Well we would be willing to pay, so know you have that option. And as far as I'm concerned fees are better than the site closing.

I funded my trip to Reno this year by selling team hoodies and lego kits. Sometimes I feel bad taking money from friends and other teams, but feelings don't pay the airlines.
