    Re: Oshkosh 2018 random images

I have to be honest. I was shooting for the EAA, and they want the pics before I share them anywhere else. This makes posting things here slightly more challenging since I don't know what ones they will use, or not use. I've probably shared a few that technically I shouldn't have at this point. Most of the ones I've shared have already been seen by them, but anything new that I process here, I kinda need to wait on. (I really want to share stuff because I've got some really cool stuff, but its all a grey area at this point.) The good news is that I will likely be able to keep the thread alive for months.

Hey Will, do what you need to do to keep the EAA happy. I don't think anyone will complain about this thread continuing for months.

Here are a few more. Its getting hard to remember which I have posted.

        Hi Bill,

Your shots are amazing. For this image the data says Nikon D500, 1/250th, F5.

Were you using a auto setting or had manual settings for the night shots?

The D500 is on my wish list.

        Thanks again for sharing.

Dang. These shots are epic. I have to get back that event. Last time I was there was 2007. Thanks for posting. I look forward to seeing more. The night fireworks shots and that yellow bird on the pond are beyond great.

              Hello Hans,

It was on full manual. That shot was at 150mm, but others were much more. I did not want to come down on the shutter speed for when I was shooting longer. These guys like Will can shoot slow, but me, not so much. Aperture was as wide as the lens allowed. The lens did have vibration stabilization on, but I did not want to get to crazy with it. The ISO was at 16,000 and made it all possible (still unbelievable to me what the new cameras can do). This was the first time I shot at night. Aeroshell was the first act, and all my shots sucked. But, I did get things dialed in and got a few keepers later in the night show.

Tim - That is truly a fantastic shot. If only it had a tow bar! I'm sure you have a few other shots from Osh. Feel free to share on this thread.

I have never seen a night show and it just looks spectacular. High on my bucket list.

There is a lot of digital noise with these, but wow it was awesome to see in person.

A few cool but probably not publishable shots.

We did not have a car for the Wednesday night show and would be walking back to our base of operations. When they cancelled the show, we decided to heed the warning and start walking. We saw the B-1 from the North 40; fantastic! We got back to base right when it started to really pour. Had we waited the extra 10 minutes, it would have resulted in 10 minutes of walking in poring rain. It all worked out, but I really wanted to see that takeoff up close.

Separately, I really like the Skyraider(s) shot. And, you guys and your long exposure night shots have me thinking about next year.

Look! No military hardware... I think I shot far more civilian stuff than anything else. So many nice Stinsons, Staggerwings, Howards, Travel Aires, Swifts ect.
