While a few in the air race community have heard of the unfolding events, Mike’s death is now public knowledge. Mike was a key member of the team, having worked on many of the systems for PM over the years. If you’ve ever been in the pits, you’ve seen him tirelessly working away. He was a somewhat quiet person, with a great sense of humor and an undying sense of love and duty towards his two children.

To make the story short, Mike didn’t show up to work for three days at Disney and was laid off. He seemingly dropped off the map, and over a long period of time none of his co-workers, family or friends were able to make contact with him. He only answered text messages for a while, often with replies far out of character for him. No transactions were made on any of his bank accounts, and all his on-line activity stopped. As family and friends sought each other out, a childhood friend asked the local police to file a missing person’s report. The sheriff’s department searched his property and found his remains buried beneath a hastily poured concrete “Fire Pit”. Perhaps the best on-line story is the Daily Mail one at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5488619/. It has become a national story as it unfolded, and the main suspect is his long time abusive wife. The local LE is working to complete a case and has shared nothing with the public yet.

The circumstances around his death overshadow the memory of a great guy who loved his children above all else. He was always in the thick of things turning wrenches, sweating and fighting to keep PM alive. A hard worker, he gave so much to the team and will be missed in the future for sure. His sense of humor was intelligent and understated...but always funny. He was not unknown to tie wrap an exhausted team member into the chair they were sleeping in after many hours work to keep PM in the air. His family, co-workers, friend and team mates have connected and together remember him and hope for justice in his death.

Blue Skies Mike, you are missed!

A tragic story, indeed. With hopes for justice, my condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. Rest easy, sir.

Blue Skies & Tailwinds to Mike Shaver. When PM is flying again it should be in memory of Mike.

As much as we all want her flying again, we now have even more reason to work towards the goal of her turning around the pylons again. Locally, a neighbor hosted a memorial service for him that included team members, friends and co-workers of his. He certainly won't be forgotten....tribute ideas are being considered now.

One of Mike's friends put together this video memorial for him:

Tragic. Condolences to the family and friends. I talked to him in the pits a few times. Just a good old fashioned nice guy.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

              So sad, way to young.

When you guys come to the air races, bring something PM relate, like a large banner.

It could be "In Memory of Our Friend Mike Shaver, RIP" or something and have it on display for everyone to sign.

Something you can take back home and proudly display.

It's sad this year that we don't have the races to be excited about, but moments ago it was announced that Mike's killer has been arrested on 2nd degree murder charges with no bail. Somehow it is fitting that this happens during the traditional race week we all miss....

A 37-year-old woman was charged Thursday with killing her husband, whose remains were found buried in a backyard in Clermont in 2018.

Laurie Leigh Shaver of Okahumpka is being held in Lake County Jail on charges of second-degree homicide (domestic violence) and accessory after the face in second-degree homicide.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the remains of Shaver’s husband, Michael, were found in June 2018 under a concrete slab around a fire pit in her yard on the 9800 block of Sandy Pines Road.

The investigation started in February 2018 after after one of Michael Shaver’s friends said he hadn’t heard from Shaver since the last part of 2015.

During a well-being check at the Sandy Pines Road home, deputies could not locate Shaver, and Laurie Shaver said he left her and their two children and moved to Georgia in 2014, after she filed a domestic violence complaint against him, according to an arrest warrant.

When deputies asked Laurie Shaver if they could use a dog that sniffs for cadavers to check around the concrete slab, she told them to leave their property, officials said. Deputies returned in March with a search warrant and found skeletal remains buried 3 feet under the slab, which was matched through DNA to Michael Shaver, an arrest warrant states.

Deputies believe Shaver was killed in November 2015. They do not say how he was killed and parts of the warrant are redacted.

Shaver assumed Michael Shaver’s identify on social media and text messages after he disappeared to try and convince friends and family he had left, the warrant states. She also told a boyfriend, “It’s not that he’s missing, he’s no longer walking the Earth” and that there was a body on the property, according to the arrest warrant.

A news release says, “Detectives have investigated this cased diligently since its beginning” before obtaining an arrest warrant this week.

Hard to believe that someone who bore a man's children could do that to their father! Very sad that sometimes really good people marry really bad people!

                      Sad story indeed.

Theres some looney ones out there. Sometimes a man thinks with the wrong head.

My good old drinking buddy Rex (no longer with us) had a saying

"Life's a bitch and then you marry one"

Your comment made me remember the time during the lead up to my divorce my wife has a very violent temper, holds a grudge forever, just like her dad!

Once we were having a fight on the top of the stairs and she started clawing my arms when I tried to restrain her from hitting me... with a horrible look in her eyes, she pushed and released my arms, clear intent was to push me backwards down the stairs!

I'm probably lucky I didn't wind up buried somewhere on my property!
