  • For You Navy History Buffs - 4th Ford Class Aircraft Carrier Name

The Navy announced they plan on ordering a 4th Ford Class aircraft carrier in the mid 2020s.

The first is named USS Ford, the second will be USS Kennedy, the third will be USS Enterprise.

What would be your suggestion for the 4th?

    USS Hornet has my vote.

How about a new USS Constitution? That would be a complete mystery to many Americans.

Uh oh, that would require reading. That eliminates a good portion of the population

Well in the spirit of July 4th, one group of enterprising soles spent some time spelling out "we the people" in rocks along the "Loneliest Road in American", highway 50 east of Fallon Nevada.

Artist spends five days writing the Preamble of the Constitution in the desert along the "Loneliest Highway".

USS Miller (FF-1091) was named in honor of Doris Miller. Commissioned in 1973, decommissioned in 1991

I think the USS Hornet is already named for one of the amphibious assault carriers.

Usually carriers get named after presidents (Enterprise being the exception). Subs get named after cities and states (depending on fast attack vs boomer). Amphibious ships are named after famous battles (ie Iwo Jima). Destroyers after medal of honor people etc.

Then it should be named the USS Donald J Trump, as was suggested earlier.

Carriers have long been named for presidents, but the JFK was the start of the naming alone of presidents (Except for Nimitz) Why not use Lexington, or Yorktown.. Yorktown would be the 3rd carries to carry the name.....

I'm with you, Yorktown would be a great name. She was a fighter to the end.

Her sailors would feel a lot of pride knowing the legacy they represent.

Just imagine her maiden voyage, they could cruise to the location where CV-5 went down and hold a ceremony in remembrance and honor those 141 that went down with her.
