Exactly, and their payouts to the competitor base is a dribble of water from a rusty old sink.

I never did understand that with all the money the Casino's take in with rooms. food, gambling plus car rentals, flights in & out why they can't pay more to the race teams. Hilton's seemed to be the only one that ever really had an interest in the Air Races.

Let's not conflate the economic impact to the area (hotels, restaurants, rental cars, casinos, etc.) with balance sheet of RARA. Apples and oranges...

Correct, but the area businesses have long told the owners and team management that there wasn't enough in the event for them to add sponsor dollars to the teams. I know I was there in some of those meetings with a team that was winning. RARA isn't exactly honest with their income information either. But ultimately it doesn't matter to me anymore as I don't go anymore. But to have this information thrown around to make the event look important in the scheme of "Reno" when it is directly opposite what was told to my Dad, Tiger, and Bob Button by the RARA board in Tiger's hangar when RARA was telling the three of them that they were going to take a bigger cut of the teams apparel sales is just spitting once again in the face of the owners. Reflective of the level of competition that is on display now.
