Re: Will Reno have a jet team in 2018?

People from Reno just don't go to the air races. It's weird. It's not like they don't know about it. They just don't. The local media used to do more to cover the event. Now it just seems like a side bar. Of course, this was when people read newspapers. Every morning of race week there would be a big color picture of a cool airplane on the front page in just about every household in town, the Pepsi skywriter would be buzzing overhead and fresh in our minds was the T-6 passes over the balloon races the weekend before. These things brought the races to us and brought us to the races. If they want the locals to come out, they need to start opening the eyes of the community again. Reno has grown a lot this new century and the new people don't get it and the old people have lost sight of how this used to be such a big community deal.

I think getting the jet demo team to do a couple laps of town, especially over the elementary schools at lunch time would get kids to pester their folks to coming out.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

I also remember when they towed planes from the Reno airport through the streets and displayed them downtown.

The casinos and the Reno Tourism group could do more, maybe have some planes downtown and pilot meet and greet autograph/photo opportunities. NHRA does something similar to their events "meet the drivers".

Re: Will Reno have a jet team in 2018?

Great ideas gentlemen, I'll bring them up with RARA.

And in no way am I saying that I won't appreciate the Snowbirds being at Reno next year. They get people in the stands and that's what it's for. Most of us on this forum go for the racing, so the Snowbirds (especially at Reno) aren't all that important to me. The Blues and Thunderbirds will always draw a larger crowd as I noticed at Huntington this year, but it's one of the three major jet teams we can get in NA so that's fine by me

I've been playing with the idea of the CF-18 twilight show too, especially since RARA and Canada seem to have a close relationship. ACC has their 2018 schedule in the works already (something new, set to reveal at ICAS in December), but the Navy still releases their schedule in March. Maybe do what Minden did and have the CF-18 and the Rhino together?

Has RARA released the 2017 attendance and/or whether they lost or made money? Any idea what "Tiger"/"Strega" purse was?

Supposedly they do a full economic break down every other year so this year won't have that. But they are still finalizing the basic finances which will probably be released. Sounds like a profit though. No clue what Tiger got, I heard something crazy like 90k from someone here or someone else I forget. How is that even possible? What the hell would the breakdown of the purse be?

Ticket sales, the Snowbirds help that. From a photographers perspective, the nine ship formations are spectacular. Always a challenge to photograph. Looking forward to a great 2018.

The purse was in the 90k range from what I was told in the unlimited pit we were in-
