    Default A Wingman quiz

Haven't done one of these for a while, but I discovered this old slide and thought I'd put it up.

So name the year and the players, and tell us who finally took the Championship. Note that there are 4 airplanes in the shot, with one kind of blending into the background.

Brad excluded for the moment, though if he can come up with what heat this is it would be appreciated. This was a long time ago and I have no idea.

I reckon that's a start. If it helps, the aircraft running so rich up at the top is Clay Klabo's Mustang. I see the markings didn't come through on this low res version of the picture, so I thought I'd throw that in.

'76 or '77. All three of the known aircraft are in both gold races those years. Don't know who is down low there. I was only 3yo in '76.

Lord -- just a kid! Down low is the other half of the Red Baron Racing Team. The altitude of the low airplane is a major clue for anybody old enough to have been watching racing in the 1960s and 1970s. There is also a major color clue here for people who follow the history of those times.

The racer down low looks like Lefty's "Thunderbird".. At the time wasn't the other Red Baron plane Flying Undertaker?

I'll say its DG in the Flying Undertaker in 1976 and Lefty wins the championship in Thunderbird.

    Correct!

Darryl was always known for being quite comfortable down low, as well as holding a bank on the straights longer than other pilots. It was a distinctive style for the time.

The color clue is that by 1977 when Darryl flew RB, the wings were painted white.
