Personally, I'd rather see Clarkson over Leno any ol' day of the week. I sent an email to Top Gear a few years ago suggesting they do a segment on the RR Merlin at the 50th NCAR. Would have loved to have seen that.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

I think it's great that Stihl is sponsoring the Air Races, however I've never figured out why other large companies haven't jumped on board such as Coke Cola, Pepsi, Budweiser, etc etc. Just look at Nascar and the unending sponsors it has.
For what it's worth, I also think that RARA needs to get the major jet teams back, Blue Angeles, Thunderbirds, and the Snowbirds, do it on a revolving schedule so a different team is there each year.
Years ago, some of the Casino were sponsors of different races, like Harrahs Club..........what about the other casino?
    Just my 2 cents.

About 10 years ago Red Bull approached RARA and offered to sponsor iirc all they asked is the name be changed the Red Bull Championship Air Races and they be allowed to run their Red Bull Air Race as part of it. RARA told them to pound sand.

With the liability brought to the forefront by Galloping Ghost I doubt we will ever see a sponsor of that magnitude again

USAF Thunderbirds will be doing a one day only show at Reno on Wednesday, 12Sep18. Both US military jet teams schedule out two years in advance and show producers submit requests for the teams as well as ACC and other military assets NLT 01Jul each year for the following year. This year at the ICAS convention in Las Vegas (03-06Dec) the teams will release their 2019 schedules. While some shows (like the Seafair show I work in Seattle with the Blues every year) have the Blues or Birds every year, there are no guarantees for other shows year after year. It's up to the teams to determine which shows they add to their schedule. And obviously show at military installations (which tend to alternate every other year) may carry a bit more weight than those at civilian sites. Selection also tends to revolve around attendance, recruiting opportunities and many other factors.
The bang for the buck is the issue with Reno. Folks like Coke, Pepsi, Bud, etc. don’t see the value as it’s a one-time only event that has no TV exposure. NASCAR has about 36 races each year…huge exposure and a fairly decent ROI.
The Peppermill Casino is a platinum sponsor. El Dorao, Atlantis, Silver Legacy, Circus Circus do sponsor chalets so they do contribute…just not in a presenting role.
Stihl’s around for another year…then who knows. It’s the unfortunate reality of racing only once a year in a sport that has somewhat limited appeal to the general public. Most everyone above the age of 16 who attends (or watches on TV) a NASCAR event, drives a car and has some appreciation for what it may take to handle a racing automobile…very, very few folks over the age of 16 have ever flown an aircraft and may find it more of an exhibition than a competition.

I did wonder why the massive BUD LIGHT logos/titles vanished from the Super Corsair.

Precious Metal (Griffon mixmaster edition) had Eldorado sponsorship for a few years, that's why I'm considering them for my trip to Reno.

Well, given what I know about Red Bull's ethics regarding intellectual property, they would have changed something, then stole the entire air racing "thing" forever!

I actually know the guy who presented inflatable pylon racing by certified air show waivered pilots to Red Bull... only took them a year to completely STEAL the concept... they told him to pound sand!
