  • Need Camping Advice For RENO Air Races 2016

Last minute planning here, I'd given up on going this year due to lack of funds, I was granted a media pass for the event so I'm now going to come and camp in my full size pickup with shell.. Likely, I'm going to just sleep in the media lot, unless anyone has a better idea.. full size chevy, single cab, about 19' total length

    Ideas???

Not sure if this in the cards for you, but the Grand Sierra has a very nice RV lot with full hook-ups. I know you said you will be in your truck but having power and water would be nice. They also have very nice showers/restrooms included in the price of the space.

We were looking at camping this year and I think total for three nights was bout $100.

It may not fit what you're looking for but worth looking into.

      Hope this helps.

PS; we are staying at the Grand Sierra this year; if you decide to camp at their place, I have the first few rounds! And if you find something else, I will buy you a few rounds as well...its the least I can do for you!

I think my "worst case scenario" right now is to just sleep in lot #3 where media and race participants park... Heck, I'll be parked there all day anyway!

I've "camped" at Reno several times, but, always with a motor home or trailer, although, last time we all shared a trailer, I could not sleep when every time anyone in the trailer rolled over, it shook me awake, so I slept beside the trailer in the back of my truck... Was pretty damn comfortable! Canopy has side windows with screens... Figure I'll get me a "Mr Heater" just in case and I'm dialed!

Definitely "roughing it" more than I ever had but the reality of actually going just stuck me the other day, if I was able to provide coverage and thus, get media access again, I just might be able to swing doing it if I don't have to get hotel.

Besides, it'll make me get to sleep earlier and up earlier!

The coffee part will be tough! I am completely 100% worthless in the morning until I have my coffee!

Do they let people camp in the Media lot these days? They didn't used to.

Well ****, I probably stepped on my own pork here then.. I'd not planned on "camping", just getting there really early and napping in the back of my truck...

Hell, up here, homeless can park/camp anywhere, maybe I can pull up somewhere downtown

              by edit:

Truthfully, really doesn't matter where, I'm just glad the pilot light wasn't out and my fire got lit again this year, so I'll be there no matter what!

Again, by edit, just to be clear, Neal, I was only thinking out loud that I might just leave my truck in its day spot, wander about and absorb the event, visit friends in Reno, to return later only to nap a while till morning so that I can cover classes that are likely the future of the sport. I'm really sorry if you misinterpreted what I was saying!

My theory has always been that anything I could get away with is legal for me. I've camped (or slept) in some pretty strange spots.

There's a gravel pit off Red Rock a ways past the houses where I've camped on occasion. It' actually not a bad spot at all -- really quiet.

I've camped at Bordertown a couple of times. They had RV sites and, at the time, clean bathrooms and showers. I have no idea what the rates are, I was sleeping in tent. There is a small casino next door that had good food, and also a market/gas station.

It's time for Wayne to join the cheapskaters out on Red Rock. Anyone want to offer him a spot? Anyone from Christies crew?
They even have porta potties, live bands, and two stroke margarita machines. And a well hardened bunch of air race fans.

Bordertown is still there and only two exits away to the north. Still has the amenities.
During Street Vibrations they even let the bikers set up tents on the lawns outside the campground.

Wayne you can park/camp in the churches dry lot, there is no need for reservations there. You can also park/camp in the lot by the pits were I stay now, which is far closer and not subject to the Spanish inquisition that the church is part of now.

If you camp in my lot I can feed you when required, and I promise not to make fun of you for not keeping up with our beer consumption...

That would work just fine! Do I need to get reservations, how much for Tues-Wed through Sunday??
