  • Fly Boyz 2016 race camp

Things are underway at Phillip Goforth's Texas hideout with several airplanes getting prepped for PRS and the races. First up was rookie Joseph Clark's "Tigger" Although it's been several years since it was flown the airplane was in great shape and was flying with a days work. He's got a lot of time in her now and will be a player for the Griplock Slab Wing Challenge.

Next up is a series of modifications to Jay Jones' Quad Nickel as we get it set up for Justin Meaders. Justin is building a Snoshoo which will be a fantastic aircraft once completed, but it became clear that it wouldn't be ready in time for PRS. Jay Jones stepped up and graciously offered the opportunity for Justin to modify Quad Nickel so that he could use it at PRS. We are 99% done installing the hand control setup and it should fly withing the week if all goes well. For those that don't know, Justin is paralyzed from the waist down. To adapt the airplane over required the use of several special control parts that were expertly designed and built by Justin. The main control stick has an hand brake to control the right side brake. There is an additional side stick mounted on the left side that is the push-pull control for the rudder along with a hand brake for the left side, and a twist throttle. You can see more on the teams Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/Limitlessairracing/

Next up is a very unique airplane. The Budde brothers brought "El Banditio" down from Oklahoma. It's a great opportunity for us to be able to work on such a unique aircraft. We aren't concentrating on it right now since it is not going to PRS but it will be ready for September. It was last flown at the Tunica Air Races but did not race.

Of course no race camp would be complete without a practice course to get some extra time on. I'll get some more footage up once the weather clears to the point we can actually fly.

Why is Jay not racing #45 this year? He had a good 2015...

Cool! I remember meeting Allison a few years back. I wish her well -- a very talented and determined woman.

Who's going to race El Bandido? That was a good looking airplane in its later years.

Please let us know how it flies and what you think of it. I remember Bobby struggling a bit at times, but this was when he was older -- plus, he was an airline pilot 51 weeks a year at that point (or retired, for all I can remember).

We are giving her a full lookover and replacing most of the hardware so its going to be a month or so before we start flying it. There will be plenty of pics along the way, we have been working on knottygirl alot also lots of clean up on the body , new very angry race engine and a top secret prop

So how many airplanes are you all going to be hauling to Reno? Sounds like it's going to be quite a caravan...

Congratulations to all. Your Racing class has had a very competitive racer in the past who had one arm. Now you have a guy with no legs flying in a Gold class airplane. Great stuff! Best of luck to him in September...
