Say what you want about wind, smoke, temperature, etc., but Tom Aberle knocked the biplane qualifying record outta the park in those same conditions.

I'm sure the wind was much calmer then ..

However, after Voodoo posted cruise speeds, I have no idea why Hoot and crew didn't put 480 on the board. Unbelievable.

Strega put up the number they did for the same reason Voodoo posted a "cruise" speed. The conditions absolutely sucked. Cold, low humidity, and a ton of smoke particles in the air will never make for fast speed.

Conditions during biplane were bad...but during Unlimited time were downright nasty. Smoke is killing the humans as well as the machines. Heard late reports expecting very cold weather tomorrow....damn...

Don't know about the others, but Hoot took only one qualifying lap yesterday, leaving one in the bank should they choose to up the ante.

Super blue skies and already 66 degrees here this morning. I'm sure that will change but, might get some decent speeds this morning. Anyone not going up in the morning session is crazy.

Rare Bear just flew an unofficial qual lap of 480.9! Timed with my hand held timer, but she sounded good and was moving fast!!

It's official! Rare Bear is the top qualifier at 480.6!! There was some controversy as Stu Dawson broke the deadline avoiding a big dust devil. He wasn't going to fly through it for safety reasons. RARA agreed after some discussions.

As of Tuesday at 3:00 the order is:

Rare Bear - 480
Voodoo - 464
Strega - 429

Strega has been pulled into a hanger and is being worked on.

I bet it is! But we came from 3 months of above 95 degrees temp and above 80% humidity.....makes 60 cold for right now! I am, however, easily switching back to me 30 years of tolerance of this weather from being a west coaster for 30 years....

They were chasing a few gremlins. Everything is fixed now and she'll take the clock tomorrow.
