  • Reno Stead Report 9/2

Well, not much of a report.

In the Bear Cave looks like the guys were taking the cowling off to do some things.

There will be no flights today, Stu said he was flying home for the Labor weekend.

Other than that the bleachers are all set up. I would imagine after the Holiday the pace will be picking up at Reno Stead.

Wishing you all a nice Holiday.

You must have showed up after me, Dawg. I was there while they were doing today's run up. The guys are looking a little frustrated. They are not getting the power they are looking for.

Too bad I missed you. Ya, I sense that same thing.

Every time I've been there they seem like a good group of guys.

I'm sure by the time the air races come around they'll have everything work out.

Just like all the teams, we wish they all a good time and good and safe race week.

Ya, they're all nice guys. Especially Stu. He kept saying, "Yes Mr. Penny. Yes Mr. Penny." Mr. Penny had his grumpy face on. He did come over to make sure I was going to cover my boys ears while they did their run up. 'Cause that's what good guys do. Stu came over and BS'd for a few minutes when they were done. He said that just like everyone of the last five years, they just have to beat it (the Bear) into submission.

I'm hoping this is a joke but sadly I don't think it is.

                Mondays 2 flights were:

1st - conservative, just checking all the readings and breaking her in.

2nd - bit more throttle but nothing aggressive.

Tuesday afternoon's flight, it lasted maybe 10 minutes, again nothing aggressive. However, I sensed they were looking for something, this flight was not consistent with the previous days 2 sessions (expecting higher throttle levels). Very conservative in my option.

Rumors from other source is that the motor is going to come back off.

They may as well put the P&W R-2800 back on, cut another hole in the top, and make it a two-seater.

Could still get first place in the Bronze class- if they still had the Bronze Class, that is....

Back when I drag-raced cars we would change one thing, make a couple passes and see if it helped or not.

What I am seeing is the equivalent of changing jetting, timing, stall converters, tire pressure, gear ratios, shift points..........and then blaming the guy you bought the car from 3 years ago.

I sure am hopin Hoot does well this year, he is a national treasure and one of the neatest racers ever.

Why would they pull the engine, unless it's making metal??

                            Maybe not making enough horsepower.

                              Building Suspense??

If it was making metal the doors would be closed and they would be headed back to Texas.

My guess is something in the supercharger needs work.

                              But WhadoIknow...............
