Since our first visit to the Races in 1974 we've stayed at about all the hotels in town. Been staying at Circus-Circus the last 20 years or so and find it meets our needs well. Since the Nugget sold a few years ago I've heard they have good deals. We stayed there in 1987 and it was just ok.

I've tried all forms of lodging during race week...from RV in the parking lot, to Circus, Silver Legacy, the Sundowner, MGM Grand/Grand Sierra, the Motel 6.....even stayed in the Guard barracks at the east end of the field back in the early '80's.
But the best deal I EVER got was last year by going through Hotwire.com. You tell them when you want to stay and they give you 'blind' options based on the 'star rating' of the hotel. They don't tell you what the name of the place is until after you buy the package, but I ended up with a great room at the Western Villiage Inn & Casino (in Sparks, near the Nugget) that was cheaper than I could have gotten at the Motel 6.
Might be worth looking into...and far more comfortable than the beds at Circus Circus.
Don't forget the Gold Dust West. A fine establishment that pays its slot tourneys with cases of Pepsi, and they have round beds with mirrors on the ceiling.
