  • Wingman quiz

OK, here's a typical dramatic Reno scene -- 3350 leading 2800s and all that...

Name the year and the players.

Don't have a clue. My only clue is the Van. If the Van is kinda new, I would guess the year to be early 80's.

But the real reason I replied was; Who brings a boat to a plane race?

        Hmmmm...fuzzy memory but I'll try.
        85
        McMillan (sp?)
        Preston
Yancey (maybe Bob Guilford...I think he was there, too.)

I see two Voughts, a Douglas and a Grumman. Not sure why the Grumman is inverted.

Nope. California numbers on the boat. It actually looks like a good way to go to the races. Camp up at Frenchmans every night, fish in the morning and put the the boat on top for some shade out in the desert during the day.

I'd guess but Leo had it the answer as me. I'll just wait it out.

Great pics by the way! I love wingman quizzes. Thanks for putting one up. It's been awhile.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

You're welcome. On reconsidering, both Leo and Wingnut are pretty close...

I thought Jay Cullum was the worlds fastest Skyrader pilot. His race number was 409 though.

What "I" see is from 1985. Jimmy McMillian in the #404 Skyraider. Bruce Lockwood flying Alan Preston's "Old Deadeye" Corsair (which Preston had recently purchased from Lockwood), and Bob Guilford in "Blue Max".
